Little Blue 82

Well, the more you know... :nabble_smiley_blush:

That's embarrassing.

I hate to offer bad advise.

So you're saying Ray doesn't have any Emergency Brake light, and instead his proportioning valve has faulted?

Ray, did you lose a line or something?

I have the '84 EVTM digitized but not on the website, and it does show that a switch had been added by then. And looking at the MPC, the e-brake pedal assembly that is listed is an E4TZ 2780. So it appears that the switch was added in '84.

Jim - Not to worry. I didn't know that until not too long ago when David needed a replacement pedal assembly. It is an obscure detail.

That or there's water in the plug or something shorting it out. I believe that switch is normally open, so if the circuit closes for any other reason that light will come on.

Yes, the switch is normally open, so water in it might do it. But it might also be stuck to one side, meaning the front or rear circuit. The FSM says to STAND on the brakes, HARD, to see if it'll recenter. Didn't work for me and I had to replace the valve/switch combo with a used one.

I don't worry.

My autistic mind files away all this minutiae.

I do not like to offer up bad advise, even because I don't know the years applicable

On the dash pad, I put a note on my phone, hopefully I remember to look at it when I pull the dash pad again!

Looking at the dash, over the glove box, counting from the right. Mine are screws 2, 5 and 8.

Last night I pulled the cluster out of the dash to replace some bulbs in the backlights. I "fixed" the seatbelt and brake light by removing the bulbs and putting those bulbs into the gauge cluster back lights. Problem solved....ish.

Brakes work fine. What do I need an idiot light for?

Seatbelt always goes on. What do I need a seatbelt light for?

Anyway, today I get those 32s balanced. They are checking the rims for straightness also. I suspect a bent rim, but it could just be an imbalance.

Then, I go to an exhaust shop to have them finish out my cobbled together exhaust system. I think I will have them take it on out the back to a single 3". Its pretty loud as is. Im thinking adding some pipe and running out the back will tune it down some.

Then onto vent window weatherstrip and doors. I am adding sound deadener to doors to give them a little more enertia when closing. They need splash shields, so I will make some from 3 mil plastic. Still need to find a good drivers side window regulator. Could use a completely different set of doors.

You could have just unplugged the seat and master cylinder, but if you needed the bulbs anyway....

3" sounds a little large for a 300 (my 460 has a 3" pipe)

But even if it hurts scavenging it will make the tone lower, if that's what you're looking for.

Be good to get to the root of your vibration issue. :nabble_smiley_good:

Jim, the brake light is controlled by a switch on the proportioning valve mounted on the frame in 82. Not sure about other years. But yeah, I was already in there replacing bulbs, so it was easy to remove them.

We are taking a trip to a mountain cabin next month, and taking blue 82. So, trying to make it a lot more quite. Its pretty loud. Three major noises. Door seals whistle. Mud terrain tires whine. And the exhaust. I cant hear the radio when driving over 50mph. So....yeah. Its fine when its just me tearing up the daily commute to work. But with wifey, she will appreciate a nicer ride.

Tires can make a huge difference. I thought Rusty's tires were quiet until I replaced the flatulent Flowmaster with a Magnaflow. Wow, what a difference. But then I discovered that the tires "sang", and at anything over 45 MPH they were noisy.

And door seals can make a tremendous difference as well. Big Blue's seals were SHOT, and when I replaced them the noise in the cab dropped nicely. But then the exhaust note was obvious. Man, I hated those glass packs!

Sorry Ray,. I guess I'm just enamored with the plastic see through reservoir that has an actual level sensor on my Bricknose (and Gary is too! :nabble_smiley_whistling:)

I really have to focus and think about those rusty, bail lidded M/C's that y'all have to deal with.
