81 F100 AC wiring harness ??

Dave, I *just did a re-pin from the early style square connector to the later style flat connector for my 1981 (upgrading to a 1985 HVAC controller). I will do a how-to web page on it, but for now you can see it in my build thread. I didn't use spade connectors, I just released the terminals out of the square connector and snapped them into the flat connector. I don't know what your time frame is like but I will be going to the junkyard Friday morning if you need/want a flat connector to re-pin.

Here is my post with a picture of the wire color order. Note that the brown/white wires (2) are fused within the loom so the order on those does not matter:

Where are the rep's on this site? :nabble_anim_confused:

I was working with someone else as he looked over his truck and your links for the 100th time and seeing page 145 the light bulb went off!

I even went out to my garage dug thru a bin and found the control panels I got from other members as sure enough there was the socket for the wires.

When I looked at them before I was looking for a large socket like for the fan & tank switches.

The only thing that throws me now is the pin out.

The "terminal locations" picture is a square and you can see it is inline.

I think I can use spade connectors but I don't know what color goes were on the selector switch.

Any one have the HVAC panel out and can check wire colors top to bottom on that plug that would help a bunch.

Thank you all for the help

Dave G.

and now we know the rest of the story . . .

So the link Gary shows of the square pin out is a early setup and the flat style like I pictured is a later style? I did not know they did that, learned something new.

I also don't remember what years the panels are from as I got then over a year ago. When you need something and you see it "pop up" you get it!

The "how to" would be great if not for me for others that come across this.

I wish I could just "release" the connectors from the plugs and do a swap but I have nothing.

On the truck side someone cut the plug off and that is what started this post as I needed to know what the wires went to.

I wonder if you can get that plug? I know you can get the fan & tank switch pig tails.

Thanks

Dave G.

I showed you the connector from the 1981 EVTM as you have an ‘81 truck. 😉

I think the change was in 1985. I have that EVTM scanned, but not on the website yet. But here’s from the 1986 EVTM.

Oh yes, you can look at Ford’s connector catalog here: http://dadistributing.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Motorcraft-Pigtails-connector-catalog-2014_electronic-1.pdf. Perhaps you can find that connector. The 4-cavity connectors start on Page 18.

That will work.

I also looked over the link Ford F834 posted and I think I can get it wired up and not let the smoke out ;)

Thanks again guys

If you knew a guy who was going to the junkyard in the morning after work I'm sure he could grab you one with enough wire attached to patch it in 😉 ...and I'll bet it wouldn't even cost much.

I am up for that if that person could come up with the plug and some wire or the whole harness if not much to get it out.

So far the plug/pig tail looks to be about $30+ s/h if it is the right one as they have 2 that look the same with just the last 3 letters being different.

and

3U2Z-14S411-AVA (WPT344)

Any one know what is different between them?

Once I have this part of the wiring done and truck running I know someone that is looking for the main wiring harness, had an engine fire, that I would give him my old one if it will help him as I would not needed it.

Dave, PM me your address. I snipped off a pigtail with about 6" or so if wire attached to the plug. The yard didn't even end up charging me for it. If you want/need a complete cab harness I could possibly find one and pull it for you, but we should discuss years, equipment options, etc., the last time I pulled one it took me a couple of hours, and the resulting spaghetti ball completely filled a Rubbermaid tub. The junkyard price including the core charge (for copper wire) is currently $38 plus tax and environmental charge. It is a pretty heavy pile, so the shipping would be considerable. Still not a bad price considering the alternatives, but hopefully you can patch what you have.
