1984 F250 supercab opportunity

Recommended Posts

my $0.02.

Have a look at my project thread to see what the roof rust can entail. I paid $1500 for my F250 supercab long box 460/zf-5 swap and had to work on it a ton to get to road worthy.

I admit my AVS2 is not perfectly tuned and my canopy is missing the front-top window so I get between 7-9 MPG currently. I commute 30 miles each way to work and it's consistently in heavy traffic (yay I-5)

I just got back home from work on the bronco. Total distance 5.4 miles, total time 35 mins. I even took a route that my coworker recommended today but that only saved me about 5 mins. Just can’t catch a break. This is my average city commuting reference.

This scene was shot in Dallas in the 90s on the same highway I commute on daily. Sadly not much has changed. That highway is still under construction by the way :nabble_smiley_scared:

I loved that film.

More than a few of those stunts when I was recovering from being run over and had an office job at a dysfunctional media empire.

Mike Juge is great!

I was wearing my Brawndo! tee shirt yesterday.

I'd bet Fairfield Co. or DC is as bad or worse.

I'm used to "27 mile delay to exit 28"

and "Exit 10, six mi 40 minutes"

Maybe an electric bike is the answer?

IDK, but I sure dislike sitting in the rat race.

.... Actually you made me feel better knowing that other folks use old trucks as daily drivers doing 25 plus miles a day each way.

"Can you use a 40 year old truck as a daily driver?" is one of those questions where I honestly feel like the answer is "If you have to ask the question, then no, it isn't." Yes, old trucks can be reliable daily drivers, and many of us here do that. My main "old truck" is my '97 which is trying to go down for a restoration, but I pulled it out of mothballs after sitting for 15 months to drive it 160 miles round trip to cabin. And my summer daily driver is a '71 Bronco that I recently took for a 300 mile round trip in a pretty remote part of Utah on a 95° day.

But those of us that use old trucks like that know that we can do that. I saw one YouTuber that sold T-shirts that said "I am the warranty."

That's not to say that new people can't join our ranks. But do know that you will have to be your own warranty!

I juggle between a couple different trucks as daily drivers. now I must say that I have a backup, so I know that it is not exactly the same for all. but I maintain each as a daily. a couple are old farm trucks that have failed at one point or another as the result of ages of neglect prior to me. one is an 81 f250 camper special with 351m and c6. an f100 v6 to v8 swap with a rts od and 2.75 rear axle. and my 86 sb with 4.9 and modified aod and 4.10 on 32s. each of these get 12-15 mpg my expedition just collects dust until its road trip time with my wife. she likes the windows up and air con on. im an arm on the door and wind in my hair guy myself.

My concern was the MPG, but honestly I already have a 1982 F150 that gets 11ish MPG as a daily driver. I agree that I am the warranty. I did some quick math on Insurance of old trucks vs new trucks (last 10years) and the offset in that kinda covers MPG deltas.

Yes, writing this down is helping me my justify driving old trucks.
