Just barely failed emissions HC

Recommended Posts

One I have heard from people I know in CA, fresh oil change, clean or new PCV valve, lean the idle a bit and retry.

Other item that may help, your O2 sensor is at the back of the right exhaust manifold, meaning it only sees 1/2 of the engine. If you can go with a later exhaust system and a heated O2 sensor it will improve the mixture control.

It might be good to make sure you don't have any codes in the computer as well that could cause emissions problems. Make sure the engine and the cats are good and hot before it is tested, also.

Is your truck one of the 302s that have the PCV in the rear driver side single runner?

That can cause detonation in the cylinder and it can also blow all the oil through one piston instead of sharing it amongst all eight.....

The mustang guys have a mod, where are the PCV goes to the plenum instead.

If you get too much oil in one piston it will diesel and break out the top ringland or put a hole in that piston!
