Big Brother is going 3G

Recommended Posts

Yup.

150.

Glad you went with the 8.25".

Hopefully you don't need a slightly longer belt.

Jim, about the bolts...

What's the difference with my 1G, you said I'll have to tap something... On the 3G or on the engine supports?

The adjuster clamping 'ear' of the 3G is either: tapped 8 x1.25 or clearanced (10mm) for a bolt w/nut.

If 8 x 1.25 just run a 3/8-16 NC tap in under power.

If 10mm, install a 3/8-16 helicoil.

Now you are using the bolt that fits the slot in your arc shaped adjuster arm, and you don't need a 3rd hand to hold tension, 9/16 ratchet AND a wrench to hold the free nut

Thanks Jim, more clear now (for me).

I’m looking forward to get the 3G and begin the swap.

Right

But on my 460 the pivot is at the top and the adjuster on the bottom.

That alternator would be pointing at the block.

Same for Big Bro’s 351W, pivot is on top.

This afternoon I’ll have some time to recap where I am in the process, list the parts I got and the ones I am still waiting for, and take some pictures of the 3G I received to show its clocking, bolts treads, etc.

State of the situation to come later today!

Jeff - You said in the other thread that you need to rebuild C610. Tell us more about that?

Gary, the picture below isn’t from Big Brother’s underhood, I grabbed it somewhere else.

The C610 no longer exists in Big Bro.

So, in order to plug the new 3G harness, I’ll first proceed to a surgery reconstruction and rebuild this connector.

I went to my local salvage yard this afternoon and found one.

I also contemplate the possibility to use a non functional ignition module C323 connector, which looks pretty similar. I’m evaluating options.

Well, the report will be a bit delayed, sorry guys!

:nabble_smiley_wink:

Unexpected family dinner tonight, my father (now grand-grandpa), my daughter with her husband and their new born baby are coming.

Since C610 doesn't carry much current with our approach you'll be fine with that ignition connector. Or the one from the salvage. Either one.

And have fun at dinner with that new grandbaby! Big Bro can wait.

The salvage is internally corroded, blades broken.

And not sure about the C323 idea… Yep, they “fit” perfectly, but one of the C610 wire has a much bigger gauge (yellow):
