Free Dana 44HD TTB 4.10 Axle

I have a Dana 44HD TTB front axle out of my 1986 F250. I have recently swapped in a kingpin dana 60, so I have no use for the axle. The axle comes with the beams, spindles, rotors, hubs, sway bar, driveshaft, pitman arm, steering linkage, transfer case front yoke, leaf springs, upper and lower shock mounts, and the shocks themselves. Everything is in great condition, the truck has 141k miles. The gear ratio is 4.10. 

Free to a good home, located in Duluth, MN

If I can't give the axle or even parts away, I'll be forced to scrap it due to lacking room to store.

I sold my essentially-identical unit to Brandon/Bruno2. But he's not collected it so I'm not sure if he really plans to use it.

Hi Gary,

The dana 60 is definitely being enjoyed. For my intended uses with the truck, I probably don't need the strength of a dana 60, but having the heavier duty, and simpler (Kingpins and monobeam etc) is worth the upgrade. I also like that the truck sits up about 2.5" higher.

This upgrade has been something I have wanted to do for years. I'm glad I was finally able to make it happen! Next up is the ZF5 swap, either this fall or winter, depending on my schedule.

I don't mean to hijack my own thread, but may I ask you Gary, what transfer case, linkage, and rear driveshaft are you running with your ZF5?

I'm running the original driveshaft. The ZF5 isn't much longer than the T19 and that shaft worked out perfectly.

Don't know what tires you are running, but I have 33's and the 3.55 axle ratio is ever so slightly too high for comfortable 2nd gear starts. And turning corners in the neighborhood is slightly too slow for 3rd gear. So you may find the 4.10 gears will work out a bit better, although the highway RPM will be a little higher than mine.

And I'm running the original BW1345 t-case and linkage. However the linkage needs to be adjusted a bit, and here's how I do that:

I agree that 3.55 with 33s is a bit high geared. I drove my 1988 F350 for about 4 years, and that truck has that combination. Good on the highway though!

My truck, currently with 285/75r17 (34x11.5s) and 4.10 gearing is begging for another gear. The ZF5 will be a definite upgrade, and I may be able to afford to drive the truck more often!

My parts truck is my 1988 F350 4x4. My options are to pair the ZF5 with the the 88's PTO BW1356, or the original BW1345. My main concern is not cutting a hole in the cab floor. I will not do it. I don't know which transfer case I want to run, as depending on overall length, my rear driveshaft may be getting a little short (F250 driveshaft with 4" F350 lift blocks in back) and if the ZF ends up being shorter, that may not be ideal.

What is likely is the entire F350 drivetrain (driveshafts, trans, and transfer case) all going into the F250. Then the only thing to worry about is linkage, and sourcing the correct BW1345 linkage for the F350's side T-case lever.

I am planning to do this swap before the snow falls as the F350 will be outside during the swap, so I am really hoping to not get snagged on the T-case issues.

My '87 F-250 truck came with a T-19 and currently has a Zf-5/1356 combination.

I swapped the tunnel cover for the straight & raised Zf version but didn't even need to make new screw holes in my cab floor, much less cut anything.

I don't know how much an extra 2" of lift block would change the shaft length but my stock driveshaft has plenty of slip yoke engagement.

I'd be more concerned about the joint angles being different on each end .
