BigBrother-84
Hi Gentlemen! Planning to replace the Stator assembly. Problem with aging harness connector (cracking). I would prefer not to replace only the connector. I am wondering about the "on site" operation difficulty... Is the armature complicated to take out, what about its "roll pin" (can't find a clear picture), special tool required? Thanks for suggestions! grumpin
I used a standard puller like this, https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_7763906?cid=paidsearch_shopping_dcoe_google&campaign=GSC-Tools-Equipment&campaign_id=8553470562&adgroup_id=107047174069&adtype=pla_with_promotion&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnMWkBhDLARIsAHBOftpy2dMnALvbqaLRTg0N1epq8DnyOEi0CFN07_5BoKF1pri-sfWpzkMaAh8GEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds& Once I got it off I could push it back on with the roll pin by hand. Ok thanks, so it is not too tight and hard to pull off. Now, while playing there, should I renew some other parts? • Armature (reluctor)? • Vacuum unit? • Other suggestion? 81-F150-Explorer
Ok thanks, so it is not too tight and hard to pull off. Now, while playing there, should I renew some other parts? • Armature (reluctor)? • Vacuum unit? • Other suggestion? If the armature is rusted really bad, or worn down due to a malfunction of the stator riding on it... (been there done that) then I would replace it. I wouldn't worry about the vacuum advance if it holds vacuum, as it can be replaced easily if needed.

ArdWrknTrk
Be very careful. Don't pry or pull on the teeth. Check the shaft bushings in the distributor housing for any wear or slop while you have the advance plate removed. Here are Scott's instructions to take apart and recurve the DS-II distributor. http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_index.html http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_page-2.html The roll pin indexes the reluctor to the shaft. You must get the pin back in the correct slot or your ignition timing is going to be out. (see the warning in Scotts pages)
