My 1986 [with factory A/C] was "born" with a 60A unit. I took it to a local shop to be rebuilt. They were busy and said it would be a few days unless I was okay with swapping for an alternator they had rebuilt for someone who never returned. I said "fine" and they swapped my pulley. Guess what? The "new" alternator is a 75A unit! All for $65!!!

Thank you sir. The 4500 RPM tach cluster might be getting a temporary home in an 85 Bullnose for troubleshooting purposes;). Although its range is too low [when wound up!], you will be impressed by the movement! The 6K original tach, when used with my 6 banger, would barely move as @ 45 mph, the engine is turning 1250 RPMs. With the 4.5K tach, the tach is @ slightly less than mid range when cruising @ 70 mph.

It is my understanding that the V8 equipped engines depended on the starter to bell housing connection to provide the starter/engine ground. The six bangers routed the cable from the negative post to connect to one of the two bolts for the starter motor. Approximately midway, that cable had a tang which bolted to the frame.

Hey Jonathan, I assume the answer to this question is yes, but will this medium duty cluster I have (w/ 4500 RPM tach) plug right into a V8 Bullnose and work without mods? I assume it works it's just that it's a 4500 RPM tach instead of a 6000 RPM tach? Not Jonathan [David], but the answer is yes.

Jonathan, the "old man" [much younger when I met him than I now am], who instilled in me the love for older vehicles, said that by maintaining originality, when time to sell comes, you have a much larger market base. He mentioned that the sales folks spent considerable time researching what the market desired, when the vehicle was designed. On the flipside of that coin, when young, a friend of mine had a motorcycle and after a while, paid to have his initials professionally painted to the top of the gas tank. Can you imagine how difficult it was for him to find a buyer with the same initials?
