The earlier [pre EGR] manifolds did not have the hole. On the later ones, it has been reported by more than one that a freeze plug type of small plug [brass?] is available in the plumbing section of Lowes or Home Depot, which fits the opening.

Maybe ask the engine builder if he has contacts with someone else with an engine he built to similar power levels? They may have good input regarding their experience.

Well that's interesting. I was wondering why they did that...and now I know! David I ended installing a Spectra Premium sender in the side tank on my 1984, part number FG75A. If by chance your son ends up buying this one, make sure he checks the float arms side by side to make sure they are the same. I wish I had done that with mine. Thank you, Cory!

Good afternoon! The fuel tank sending unit in my son's side mounted tank [1984 short wheel base] is acting up. I have a spare from a low mileage 1986, but looking at charts, it seems there was a difference beginning with 1985. Is that correct? The engine is a 4.9L with feedback carburetor. Thanks in advance! Unless, one installs a NOS unit manufactured for an intermediate duty truck.

How do you apply Gasket Maker to the front of the key on the crankshaft after installing the damper spacer? And there's no "front seal rubbing surface" on the damper. So I applied grease to the spacer's front seal rubbing surface and then Permatex Super Form-A-Gasket to the front of the key as well as the keyway to the spacer and installed the spacer. Then I dobbed FAM on the front of the keyway and installed the damper. And, having PC'd the pointer and damper bolt, the whole thing came out looking like this, although the flash washed out the dark blue. And, note that the damper has the 1/4 turns already marked, so I'm ready to start installing push rods and shims. Nice details!

Notice that gasoline is one of the specified fuels, so a carburetor could be mounted, just like on the 240/300/4.9L.
