  1. If you only started it for a few seconds then you probably didn't hurt it. From going back over the thread you've not put coolant in it until just now, which is when you got coolant in the cylinders. Right? If so, then I think you have a gasket problem between the head and the intake. It would be easy for a gasket to slide down as you installed the intake and then coolant to go into the cylinders. And that's essentially the only way it can get in w/o a crack in the intake, head, or block.
  2. Bell - I'm not a carb guru, much less a YFA guru, but what you are saying about how rough and stinky it is I'm guessing that you are running really rich. And one think that can do that is the accelerator pump in that carb. I'm not sure how best to check that, but before you start flushing the engine and all the other things I think you need to do some more investigation. I'm going to tag Bill/85lebaront2 to see what suggestions he has because he has forgotten more than I'll ever know about carbs.
  3. I'm running Wheel Vintiques 82-680804 16 x 8 wheels on Big Blue. And Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx in LT285/75R16 tires. Makes for a good combination.
  4. Jeff - Thanks. Turns out that your system isn't the latest tech, which is probably why you said "the image quality is not as clear as my other "modern" vehicles". The one I'd been looking at is a 12" unit and has 2.5K resolution, and the same company is coming out with a 4K unit in two weeks. And as I understand it, those specs mean that the new one will have 4000 pixels across it, the current one has 2500 pixels side/side, and yours has 1280 pixels. And my guess is that your newer vehicles have the higher resolution as well. However, yours has the 3 camera inputs using simple RCA jacks, and that makes it much easier to use than some of the more recent ones which have proprietary connectors on them, forcing you to use their cameras. But, the instructions on yours don't say how to wire the camera(s), other than to plug their outputs into the yellow RCA connectors. So you still have to supply them with power, which isn't shown. Right? Also, where did you get yours? I found yours at iBeam, and they want $582 for it, although Best Buy has it for $409. But the later ones are more like $260. So I'm really confused and conflicted. I want to install one, but it has to have two weatherproof cameras. However, I'd really like to have the higher resolution of the later systems. Today I sent Wolfbox an email telling them what I'm looking for. We'll see what they say - if anything.
  5. Dane - I have one of those steps and use it a LOT. But, when leaning over into the engine compartment it has a habit of slipping out from under me. I've actually ratchet-strapped it to the wheel before, but thought the wheel step would be an easier combo. Chad - Yes, I've found that one, or one just like it at several places. Looks good. Thanks.
  6. Welcome, Eric! Glad you joined. This group not only has essentially the same truck, we have a bunch of the factory documentation on them. Peruse the Documentation section of the site in the links above. Where's home? I ask because we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we can add you if we know a city/state or zip.
  7. Man, that's a LOT of WORK! (I'm seeing Maynard G. Krebs saying that.) I got tired just reading the list. I don't know what the white socket thing is as I've not seen it. A pic? Glad you got the window and lock bit sorted. Or, sorta sorted. Insulation is good, but sound deadening below it helps even more. On the tranny, if someone filled it too full it might overflow. They are to be filled to the bottom of the fill plug, but some people pour it in through the shifter housing. As for the painting, we have a saying: Pics or it didn't happen.
  8. Thanks. That Topside Creeper looks good. Wish I'd have had that installing the many bits on the engine, particularly the oil pressure switch on the back of the engine and the fuel pressure regulators. However, I do have a flat front bumper - the Warn winch one - and I can stand on it. But the chrome there is getting very thin so I use towels on it when I do. And the winch itself is right in the middle so is in the way. However, when doing the EFI system I could easily pull the winch and have a decent place to stand. I'll consider the Topside Creeper. But for taking with me on trips the wheel step fits the bill.
  9. The oil pressure switch will only close the contacts when the engine is running. So just turning the key to Run won't prime the carb. And you do NOT want to bypass that permanently. When I got Big Blue the sump was FULL of gas because someone bypassed it and the PO left the key in Run. I drained 6 quarts of oil and 7 quarts of gas out. If you want to prime it put a pushbutton switch in to temporally bypass the oil pressure switch. Turn the key to Run, push the button, let up, and crank.
  10. Shaun - I hadn't thought about lowering the column. Not hard to do so I may try that. Thanks. Jeff - Good to know about the snow. However, given that it has been into the 70's here recently I'm kinda doubting I'll get to test that info. On the mirror, yours says it is 7", but I'm guessing that the monitor portion is 7" and the mirror itself is bigger. Right? I've been looking at ones that say they are 12", and their monitors go out to the edge of the mirror. But I can't find one like yours that has multiple inputs and trigger wires. So I'm considering going with one like yours even though the monitor portion is smaller. Can we take this to the Camera System For Big Blue thread? That way I'll be able to find the comments later when I'm looking for them. I'd like to know more about your thoughts on your system, how many cameras it came with, if other cameras were offered, where you got it and for how much, etc. Could you reply there, please?
  11. Dave - I can't find it on HF's site either. I get '"tire step" returned 0 results' when I search. But thanks anyway.
  12. Up to 4-5 inches of fresh snow, 4-L drive is unbeatable, a big tractor. You could get off the truck and it continues to move forward on idle. This is the mirror/camera I installed. The wire length was enough for the run: Jeff - Thanks for the info on the mirror. You like it? I've been looking for "the right" mirror/camera system for Big Blue, as outlined here. I'll take a look at yours and see if it might work. Yes, in 4L these trucks with a 460 will idle along about anywhere. Used BB to pull down a sign at church. Hooked him up, took out the slack, and then got out to watch the sign come down. The truck didn't need me. But I haven't had it in snow, so didn't know how well it would go.
  13. You are now on the map, Mat. Or is it Matt? We've been pretty close to you. Our kids lived in Berry Hill for a while and we were out to that mall near you several times, to the hotel with the Christmas lights in it - before it flooded, and to The Hermitage.
  14. I've been successful opening it up just far enough to slip it on. But that is scary as it seems like it'll break, but it hasn't so far.
  15. Good! But it runs in my mind that someone is making them now. Just haven't found the right thread on it. Yet.
  16. You are fortunate. We messed up. We moved to London from Oklahoma when our kids were 4 and 5, and they learned there's a big wide world out there. So one of them has lived in the Dominican Republic, Nashville, Nicaragua, and now lives in Charleston, SC. The other has lived in Colorado, Arlington, Delaware, and now Florida. So both of them are 1000+ miles from us here in Okiehoma. On the air issue, I searched the forum for "air", "fuel", "line", and "diesel" and found several discussions of the problem. But this thread seems to be the most promising.
  17. Yes, it could be a power antenna connection. I would put my DVM in ohms mode and connect one lead to white and one to black and turn the switch on. If it is a power antenna lead you'll see the resistance go to almost zero.
  18. You do have a separate antenna connection, right? If so, I can't imagine what the black is. I see then soldered connection to the case for ground, but I also see the orangeish looking wire coming from the feed-through terminal the black wire connects to the other end of, so it must not be ground.
  19. Yes, people notice when these trucks pull up. I took Big Blue to the top of several 13,000' passes in Colorado recently and he go quite a few looks. And several thumbs-ups.
  20. I don't know anything about the diesels, but several others do so will probably be along in a bit with suggestions. On the switch bezels, we've had some discussions about them recently if I remember correctly. So I did an "advanced search" for "switch bezel" and found this list of search results. And this post has a couple of finds. Are those the kinds of things you are looking for? If so, you might check out those search results. Frequently people find things and post them on here and the search function turns them up pretty easily. And you have sons that are mechanics? Man, that is gonna be a big help. Do they live nearby?
  21. Yep thats what I did. Off the truck, test fit and fix why it will not sit right. I may have drilled the 4 holes at the defrost after it was glued on from the back side. Dave ---- I drilled the holes after it was glued. That way I knew exactly where to drill.
  22. Welcome, Mark! Glad you joined. Would you like to be on our map? You can see it at Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu. If so, is it really Annapolis or??? (We aren't looking for an exact address as we don't want surprise visits.) Nice looking truck. Glad the site is helping.
  23. You do need to get out more - to Skiatook! Anyway, good job on the oil & filter. Doesn't look like the size of mess I usually make.
