Where can one find an AOD trans mount?

Recommended Posts

Last time I did a resto on my 86 Bronco, I ordered a new trans mount and it didn't fit. I ended up using the old one with like 500,000 miles on it. Now that old one has exploded. I'm replacing my AOD with a 4r70w, and I want to do it right this time.

Where in the heck can I get an AOD trans mount for this thing? Nowhere sells the right one that I have found. It's a 4wd, so it's on an extension housing and not a tail housing. And it's mated to a BW1345, if that makes any difference.

The one I need looks like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0067UDF90 that one, but the mounting holes are 6" apart center to center.

Anyone got a line on this?

I thought the mounts were mostly all the same. Are you saying that the holes where it mounts to the transmission are 6" apart, or that the studs that go through the crossmember are 6" apart?

I went through this with the M5OD as Ford changed the trans mount bolt spacing in the crossmember in the 1990's.

Are you referring to where the mount bolts to the transmission?

Yeah, the 6 inch is where it bolts to the extension housing of the transmission.

I have a mount on order that looks like a good candidate, but it specifically excluded aod in the listing. Looking at the same part on Amazon, there's a review from someone who purchased it saying "this does not fit aod"

Interesting. So the mount you ordered is not for the AOD?

I just checked my 4R70W (actually it's an AODE-W, same thing) and my mounting holes appear to be about 6" on center, maybe a little less. Hard to measure with it installed. My trans is out of a 1996 F150 2wd.

Maybe the hole spacing changed from the old Bullnose era AOD to the later AODE, and then AODE-W/4R70W.

What year mount are you ordering?

Yeah, the only mount that looked the same visually said it was for C4 and C6 with Amazon and Rockauto specifically excluding aod. I ordered the DEA A2448 mount.

Well if that one doesn't fit, I'd order the DEA A2557 mount. That's the one for the 1987-1993 Bronco and F150, F250, and E-series too. The DEA A2884 is the one that came after that. Bolt holes would be the same on the top/transmission side, but the studs are closer together to fit the 1994-up crossmember.

Cool, thanks!

I just replaced my AOD mount last week in my 90. Anchor 2557 is the part number I ordered. Fit perfect.

Thanks for confirming the 2557! I just ordered one of those, too. I can always return the one that doesn't fit.

The 2557 does look much taller than the 2448, so I am eager to see how it works out.

Interesting development: I ordered both the 2448 and the 2557 to put the issue to rest. Turns out they both have the same hole spacing and the same stud spacing. The only difference between them is that the 2557 is taller.

The hole spacing on these is 5 1/2" and the hole spacing on the one from my truck is 6 1/8". Pretty weird, eh?
