IowaTom
The shocks on my '85 F150 could well be from the factory as they're soooo old. I can just stop in my local friendly auto parts store and buy what they have, which would probably be adequate, but I thought I'd get your input on maybe a brand you've used and prefer. I don't plan to do lots of hauling and because of my state license plate for collector vehicle, I really can't be (caught) carrying stuff so I really don't need super stiff shocks. Thanks for any ideas!
ratdude747
KYB Excel-G's. What I have on my F150... not particularly pricey but the quality is good.

Not expensive but worked well. I think they were Monro-Matics.
Rusty_S85
I have Gabriel shocks on my truck. I have used KYBs and Monroe shocks and they are good but I never used them on a truck just the Gabriels.
grumpin
Monroe Gas Magnums is what I use. A reputable shop I use recommended the same shocks for our Suburban from NAPA. One of the Monroes I put on was blown but that Suburban is a lead sled and I installed them 7 or 8 years ago. And my wife laughed and said she had taken it off road on some rough stuff.
