Does that mean it was recalibrated at the factory? Or the dealership? Before or after it was sold?

I've never seen a sticker like that.

Me neither honestly. I'm really surprised the black ink in the marker was able to survive the heat from the engine for the last thirty years. :nabble_smiley_uh:

I contacted a retired Ford Engineer. Here is his response:

I think there may have been a service bulletin to change something - like the speed/load shift schedule. It may have been done as a response to some problems customers were having in the field. My Escape had a recall to do this to my computer controlled trans, which in my case was done by re-flashing the computer. As long as the trans works correctly I would not worry about it.
