302 Fuel Hose Size?

Recommended Posts

I'm back to looking for hoses/tubing again...

I have new 5/16" fuel line, and new 5/8" heater core lines, but now I need vacuum lines.

What are you guys using between the carb and PCV valve and between the carb and brake booster?

My original brake booster hose is 11/32, which nobody has, and nobody has any 3/8" vacuum hose either.

Are you guys using 3/8" fuel line for vacuum lines?

O'Reilly's carries a Gates 11/32" (.34375") hose that says it is a "Light-duty hose specially engineered for power brake applications on passenger cars and light trucks." And later it says "Vacuum rating 30 In. Hg."

As for the PVC hose, I don't know what the size is supposed to be. Here's what I find in the catalog for the 302. Note that it tells us that you are supposed to cut to fit from bulk hose (4090), but it didn't bother to tell us what size 4090. Anyone know?

I certainly don't know what the "4090" represents, but the PCV barb on my Holley is 3/8", and the barb on my PCV valve is also 3/8". Same with the barbs for the booster vacuum line, both 3/8". I guess I'll go with 3/8" fuel line, that should be fine.

I did find the 11/32" vacuum line online in the US, but it's certainly not available around here. I could order it from the US, but with shipping and exchange it would end up costing me $50 for $5 worth of line;). I'll check around a bit tomorrow for black 3/8" vacuum line, but if nothing turns up I'll try fuel line.

Thanks again Gary, you're always a great help!

Just checked Rock Auto, who I use regularly and 3' of Gates 27232 11/32 vacuum hose shipped to my address can be had for a total of $15.89 CDN. ($5.55 for the hose and $10.34 for the shipping). 10 days delivery.

Of course, I try to order all I may need in order to spread the shipping cost around a little. Dealing across the border is really not as difficult as it once was.

A lot of parts for this project have come from RockAuto! In fact, I have a radiator on the way now which should be here on Monday. However, for the smaller/cheaper items, I usually just buy them locally, and to be honest it never occurred to me to check Rock Auto for that particular hose. Good catch. Had I thought of it earlier I could have ordered it with some other things. Right now, I'm really getting down to the little odds and ends to finish this project (well, finish this part of this project...lol).

And yes, dealing across the border is easier than it has ever been, I agree. The Global Shipping Program that Ebay is using these days is REALLY helpful. I find that very convenient.

I want to put a big push on to get this thing all back together within the next week or so, so I'm trying to find all the parts I need locally. Maybe I'll get the fuel hose for now ($1.50/ft) and order the 11/32 Gate stuff next time I'm ordering from Rock Auto. Thanks for the heads up.
