Jonathan
I’m no expert on the Ford 9 inch but don’t you need to pull the axel shaft to get the backing plate off too? I don’t think you can do any bearings or seals or remove the backing plates without removing the axel shafts. If there is no evidence of any leaks or bad bearings, I would just clean up the backing plates with a wire brush and replace the brake components. One other reason I say that is I think the axel shaft has one or two components that are pressed on to the shaft. Removing them can be tricky and requires a press to reinstall. Thanks for confirming the configuration Carl. I will only address what is easily assessable when doing the rear brakes. I will pass on pulling the axel shaft at this time. I had some custom art work made up of my truck. It is in my profile picture. You can purchase the stickers directly from the artist if you like them. She can probably make other colors if requested and if there is demand for it. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1037528523/vintage-ford-truck-sticker-ford-f100

May get more if I redo anything and need them. Gary has a decal contest for ideas for site logo decals - I think that truck embodies the whole spirit of this site and the trucks. Thanks for offering them up.

It's in the main part of the forum. thread called "Window Sticker Contest" - apparently started last year but revived recently. When I go to the thread, it doesn't have a normal address at top so I'm not sure how to make a specific link. Gary may see this and help more, but pretty easy to find in main part. You need a “permalink” for any thread/post on the forum. There’s a link at the top of the thread where you can get it for the top level of the thread. Or click More on a post and then Permalink to get one for that post.

My full time job has been very busy and have worked the last two weekends also. I wanted to clean up the spindle and parts all in one go this time so I can protect it from rust and not have to keep cleaning it up again. It was a lot of work and a lot of cheek pokers but I finally got it finished. As you can see there is a few defects on the spindle. Hopefully it won't impact proper operation. Here are updates of suspension work from July 24th. I had to work last weekend but found time to work on the truck. I try to get pictures of the nut and bolt sizes to help others prepare tools needed for the job. And I also try to show the order the parts are arranged. One thing that surprised me is I finally had a chance to use that large standard wrench (1 1/8) hanging on the wall for over 10 years never used. I felt vindicated on my choice to purchase tools I don't have when they are clearance or a good deal. After getting more apart I noticed another bushing I needed to order. That nightmare was saved for the next day.
