Modified intake manifold for 300/4.9L engines... want 3 carbs?

Recommended Posts

Worst case - run on the center carb. It is still basically the same manifold that you have now.

Maybe Reamer could fabricate an aluminum box [plenum] with a removable top to mount on the lower portion of a F.I. intake manifold?

The flat solid top piece could be modified for a 2 barrel, (2) 2 barrels or (2) 1 barrel carburetors!!!

I'll let it go, now! :nabble_smiley_whistling:

I'm not authorized to see the last one. As for a box, those are problematic. Some work and some don't. I like the initial intake - 3 carbs. :nabble_smiley_good:

So, what carbs? :nabble_smiley_evil:

3 of the stock older Holley 1940s worked very well in the past. They are a nice dual pontoon float design that was a service carb. for replacing the Autolite 1100. We used to put a setup on the old integral manifold Falcon/Comet in-lines, used 3 stock carbs, center was primary and ends were progressive.

I used to have a Mercury Monarch (same as Ford Granada) with the 250 ci (4.2L) six cylinder engine and 4 on the floor trans. (3 + OD). I always wanted to cut the manifold off at the head and construct a tubing set-up to use 3 side draft Harley Davidson carbs similar to what my Austin Healey 3000 used (it had 2 SU side drafts). The 3 Harley carbs calculated to have the right flow for the 4.2L six. Just a dream in my case as I didn't have the fabrication skills.

Check this out! It appears to be made using the center section from 3 pre-EGR intake manifolds.

With the phenolic spacer, the carburetor is clocked such that all 3 carbs can be connected in a more normal manner. [Heim joints?]

What say ye, Jonathan? :nabble_smiley_whistling:

It looks to me like those are EGR manifolds with the hole filled in? Definitely has a flat lobe in that location next to the intake hole.

This looks like a fun build but I am still working at getting ~one carburetor to work right, let alone three!

We will see what happens after the diesel is running. I will probably start itching to warm up the straight six performance 😇
