I guess so it would not be metal to metal if you do not have a tire mounted on the rim. It states that on all three of the diagrams that break down the spare tire carrier. That's a good catch! I saw that too Gary and wondered because the Illustration above shows its for the F100/350. I'll most likely not really worry about having it though.
