61uni
I was having trouble with the ignition lock cylinder in my truck. It wouldn’t return to the run position by itself after the engine started and had issues with the key anyway so I replaced it. After replacing it, I have no issues with the key but it still doesn’t want to return to run by itself. Did I get a faulty part or is there another problem? Gary Lewis
There's another problem. See if the writeup on the Ignition Switch tab here helps: Documentation/Electrical/Ignition.
myrl883
The return spring is in the switch, not the lock cylinder.
Gary Lewis
The return spring is in the switch, not the lock cylinder. Which is why I suggest cleaning and lubing the switch.
grumpin
Which is why I suggest cleaning and lubing the switch. I will add that my ignition lock cylinder was very stiff in cold weather. I lubed it, did not help. Took it apart and cleaned and lubed it again, it was still stiff, maybe a little better. Then a week or so later started working great in cold weather. I don’t know if it took awhile to get through what Ford or someone else put in there, but now, so far so good.
