Brand new - Looking for any/all advice

We just acquired a 1982 Bronco 4x4 with a 302 V8 4 speed. It technically runs but needs lots of work. This is a family project we are taking on, and we’ve never done anything like this before. We have a new steering box to replace the old one, new belts and some new fluids. The brakes are in good shape and the oil was changed recently. The interior is rough to say the least. We need new seatbelts, dash/glovebox, floor cover (down the road - not urgent!), and eventually we will try to find a back seat since it doesn’t have one. The driver seat doesn’t lock into place and we don’t the the emergency brake works either. Also, the glass isn’t in the tailgate but we have it....have to try and get that working too.

There is so much information out there but we don’t know how to sift through it. We are hoping that the posts here will have lots of good info, and that you will be willing to answer our questions as they come up (I know we will have many!).

If anyone has a great video resource for helping us get oriented with the engine workings - almost like a video tour of everything under the hood - we would welcome it! We are planning to include our 8 and 13 year olds in the repairs and haven’t found a video yet that gives us the lay of the land.

Or, if you have a better way for us to learn, we are all ears!

Welcome!! Glad you joined. This is a family-friendly forum, so it should be good for your whole family.

Where's home? We have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu above) and we'd be happy to put you on if we had a city or zip. Maybe you are a neighbor to one of us?

It seems like you have a good project for your family. What is the goal for your Bronco? Will it be a weekend vehicle for camping? A daily driver? A rock crawler? That will help us adjust our answers when you ask questions. And, info like that as well as other details of the truck would be really helpful if they were in a signature that gets automatically attached to each post. The more we know about your truck and your plans the better our answers will be. And you can see how to create a signature on the Bullnose Forum/Forum FAQ's page.

Unfortunately we don't have a video for a walk-round of under the hood, but we do have the illustration from the owner's manual shown below. Maybe that will help?

Thank you! We are grateful to have found the forum!

I’ll edit the signature asap! We are in Gainesville, Fl and would welcome advice from any neighbors! I’ll check out the map and am happy to be added to it.

The goals for the Bronco are for it to be an around-town vehicle at first but if we are able to feel confident in our restoration efforts we’d love to take it camping and fishing as well. It will also be the vehicle that our kids hone their driving skills on and I’m sure it will become a daily driver once the oldest gets his license and we have a regular need for the third vehicle.

The illustration is very helpful - thank you!!

You are now on the map. And your plans for the Bronco are reasonable. We will help you get there and enjoy the journey along the way. :nabble_smiley_good:
