On the antenna, I like the Wilson 1000 which can go on the roof. However, if I put a rack on with a tent on top I'll have a place to permanently mount an antenna. But I'm not sure that a mag-mount in the middle of the cab roof wouldn't have a better ground plane than a permanent mount on a rack.

As for the unit itself, what do y'all think about the Cobra 75 WX ST? Or Uniden PRO520XL? I think I like the idea of an all-in-one rather than having another unit to mount under the dash.

I have the Cobra 75. It’s in a box with two other older radios. I would not recommend it. Doesn’t have good transmit or reception and hard to hear the little speaker. There maybe a external speaker plug, but I don’t like it. I’ve heard some do like it and its great for space. Had it in my old 4Runner and took it out. Gave it another chance in the Xterra and didn’t work out.

Now that I think about it, there is an external speaker plug in the unit you put under a seat or under the dash. Technically not all in one IMO. I tried it in the Xterra.

Thanks, Dave. Glad I asked. Guess I'll stay away from that. Maybe the President Bill is a better idea.

But that brings up the question of where to mount it and what to do about speakers. May have to think about the overhead console.

Gary, if you want that speaker base I have, its yours. Might need a new speaker. I think an overhead mount would be waaay more cooool though.

Also, update on the Motorcycle. I have an accepted offer on a 2008 XR650L. All stock except shinko tires. 1700 miles. Supposed to pick it up wednesday. Hopefully all checks out on it. Sure looks great in pics. The seller seems like a nice guy. He asked about my 918 Tulsa area code...I should have explained that to him first. Sometimes people around here see that and think I am a spammer or something.

So, I am not getting a screaming deal on the bike. Its a fair deal being it is riding season. The only thing I am not crazy about is there are no aftermarket goodies. I got spoiled on my 1st two dual sport bike purchases. I bought the 2009 KLR with 3500 miles in 2013 for $3500, and it had $1500 in accessories on it. Then I got the deal of the century on a 2013 DR650 back in 2015....seriously no joke. I paid $2800 for a mint condition 2 year old bike. It had 1200 miles on it. The guy was getting deployed, and got his gf pregnant and needed to raise cash fast. I sold the bike 1 month later for $4500. I should have kept it.

Anyway, here is the bike. Also, I am going to invite the seller to follow this thread. Maybe he would like to see the adventure his bike will be going on next year.

I have a Uniden Bearcat and I was pretty happy with it. The builtin speaker was plenty loud enough. Reception was suspect, but that probably had more to do with the hidden antennas in the Cascadia Evo. I've been holding on to it just in case I get back on a truck(even though there's very little CB traffic these days), but I'd probably part with it at some point...

Ray - I forgot what speaker base you are talking about. Can you refresh memory? But an overhead mount with a speaker firing down would be cool.

Rob - A Bearcat is OLD! From maybe the 70’s?

lol - Forgot the bike. That good looking, Ray. Should make the trip nicely.

I’ve been wondering if I need to have a ramp to load a bike on the TAT. If we have a broken bike...

Ive got aluminum ramps that have straps to cinch down to the bumper. I'll bring them with me.

They have a 'new' Bearcat, maybe 6 or 7 years now. Ever since I started OTR in '14 at least.

That would work. But we need to find out how high a bike is. That’s because I plan to have a rack with tent on top, and we either need to be able to get the bike under the rack or lift the rack long enough to get the bike in.

And, I’ll need to arrange the tools and parts so there’s a path down the middle. And, how long is your bike?
