80s accessories that are still cool

Recommended Posts

So I'm nearing the end of working on the powertrain of the truck and about to get ready to start working on fixing rust and such and putting some custom touches on it and I'd ike some help from y'all.

As I'm probably one of the youngest members on here I was not alive when the Bullnose trucks came out and the only experience I've had with the 80s is stereotypical stuff and old family photos.

All you guys that experienced the 80s first hand or thereabouts, what were the coolest truck accessories and custom touches you saw back then that you still like today? I'm not looking to sink thousands into a custom paint job but things like lights, cb radios, and such aren't out of the equation

I'm seeing KC lights and bars are a trend, I like that😎

Post pics if you got them!

Wagon wheels are another big favorite.

This truck is a rolling time capsule, it was put together like this in 1988-1990 and has virtually been identical ever since.

Even had a car phone and a CB in it. The front face shot is from 1991 ish. The push bar and plow setup interchange depending on months of the year. I have old photos of it identical.

Second the KC lights with the yellow smiley face cover on a behind-the-cab roll bar. That was absolutely essential.

Now that I'm thinking of it, I'm going to get a set of those for my own 84. Anyone know if the new version KC lights with the LEDs are any good?

I got my driver's licence early in 1988, so I remember very well when there were loads of these trucks on the road, and I bought my first Bullnose in the early 90's (a 1980 F100 Flareside). I was never much of an accessories guy...and truth be told, as a young fella I probably couldn't afford them back in those days anyway...lol.

I forget who said it above, but I sure did like the wagon wheels back then...in white or chrome, and tires with raised white letters...I was a sucker for those, and I still am. It's one of those things that people either love or hate though...much like other accessories.

For the full 1980's experience...install a tape deck, and throw a dozen or so cassettes all over the bench seat...lol. I swear I can still see them when I get in my "new" Bullnose almost 30 years later!
