scbill Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Did a search on AOD noise, etc with no results. 1983 4.9/AOD, There is a whine at idle, and til you get to about 20/25 MPH, changed fluid thinking maybe clogged filter, no change. I had a late 60s Dodge that had the same noise, did a filter/fluid change to solve. I was told maybe pump, or converter. Is there any kind of additive that will quieten it, or just drive it till it starts to get worse? Thanks Bill
Angelo Voltura Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Willing to bet the front pump is going so the Trans will need to come out. Never heard a converter whine unless very low on fluid, they usually shudder something god awful and the truck wont want to move at all.

Knowing then what I know now, I would have attempted to repair/replace it while the engine was out. Truck was not derivable when I bought it so, I was not aware of this problem. It was running but, needing serious rebuild, don't think I could have heard it over the bearing noise. Bill
