Turnburn720 Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 I need a new line from the mechanical fuel pump to the fuel filter on the carb. I'd like to just order a pre-flared line of copper nickel and bend it by hand, but I don't know what the specs are on the fittings so I don't know what kind to order. Can anyone help me with this? Or a better option? EDIT: For people who find this thread in the future: I went to Napa, got a piece of preflared 5/16" nicopp tubing for $11. I found out the hard way that copper nickel doesn't bend as well by hand as I previously thought, but it did come with 1/2x20 male fittings, which were correct. The piece was 40", which needed to be trimmed down to 24" which is the exact length to go from the mechanical pump to the filter on the factory carburetor.
Angelo Voltura Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 The fuel inlet is a barb 3/8" or 5/16". The output from the pump to the carb is typically 1/2x20 thread, inverted flare. Since you didn't specify the engine I am not sure exactly what you need. Most copper-nickel rolls will not be pre-flared. I'm actually in the midst of doing this on my older truck, but replacing hoses and clamps with AN fittings. If you have 3/8 stuff, I can provide you everything you need to do it.

Sorry, It's a 4.9, and the outlet end on the pump is the side I need to replace the line on. So if I got fittings that were 1/2x20 inverted pitch you're saying they would probably fit? A friend of mine also told me that you could order a pre-cut length of tubing with the fittings already on and the ends flared. Is that not a thing?

It is a thing but IIRC come in 6" long incroments, so 6", 1', 18", etc up to think 3'. So you may find 1 is to short and the other to long so you would buy the longer one, bend to fit and cut & re-flare 1 end. Dave ----

But typically 1/2x20 I have seen. The prebent lines are difficult to find. But as mentioned your better off making your own.
