Madtikicustoms
Hi folks! Im curious, as the title suggests. Are the tail lights interchangeable from say an 80-86 with a later year. I know the sheetmetal has slightly different shapes, but it looks close enough that it would work. I found these really cool looking (to me) tail lights that i think would look great with my all black 86 Bronco. For some reason they list 87-96 on all custom lights. And 80-86 are only available in stock form. Has anyone actually swapped out to a later year pair? Can you post pics of final product and what hurdles (if any). thank you! myrl883
I don't think they'll fit. If you need, I have both body body styles at home and can trial fit between them and let you know for sure.
Gary Lewis
I don't think they'll fit. If you need, I have both body body styles at home and can trial fit between them and let you know for sure. The later ones do fit, but they don't have quite the same contours. One of our members, Paul/Rogue_Wulff, posted about them back on FTE: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1123180-dads-truck-build-110.html#post12624696. And, I think he even posted a picture of the differences in the way they fit, but I haven't found it.

The lights are angled and the bed is rounded so there is a half inch gap/hole but not easily noticable if you werent looking for it. It's the opposite on the newer lenses on the older box and there is no gap, they just stick out a bit. They bolt in the same, although the slotted holes for bulbs are in slightly different positions so you just have to twist the socket a little further. Not the best photo but also not really noticable.

If I was to buy new lenses I'd give them a try just for the better backup lights.
