Custom ordered "Carmel" color XLS flareside!!!

Recommended Posts

Interesting. The interior matches the exterior, but the inside of the bed, inside the front fenders, firewall, and back of the hood are all black. The diamond plate floor in the bed wasn't put there by Ford either.

Whether it was ordered that way or not in 1982, I'd say it has been repainted since.

Agreed. The more I look at this the more funny business I see...

The really obvious "mistake" is that XLS should have a black "frame" painted around the side windows which is missing on this truck's paint job:

Other slightly "wrong" details are the 83+ shift knobs (for it being 1982 model year) and in the brochures XLS did not have chrome beauty rings on their silver spoke wheels. The chrome mirror heads are wrong, but most XLS that you see don't still have their black 80/81 style mirrors. So this may just be a custom paint job, but an interesting color combo either way...

It is interesting. Obviously not "factory", but well done nonetheless.

It's a rebuild, "show me the car fax":nabble_anim_confused:

Notice the exterior color is not on the engine bay firewall, and yes, you are correct, Ford did not install diamond plate in the bed.

Interesting to see if the bed superstructure still has the rotted bed-wood under the diamond plate...

Could be a "pig with lip-stick"

I find this interesting, I was actually researching a 1982 xls due to the fact that I recently purchased one and after looking at the pictures in your post, it is the exact truck I have, odometer is showing 56,000 miles and it runs like a top

Glad you joined and can give us some first had knowledge on this great looking, one of a kind truck. As soon as you take care of the New Member details, please tell us what you know or have learned about the truck :nabble_smiley_good:
