F250 springs on F150 question

That is tough to answer, so I'll just post this from the 1985 brochure:....

Obviously payload is GVWR minus the weight of the truck. Less obviously, trucks are often heavier than you think! My '97 F-250HD CCSB with a fiberglass topper and with me in it weighs 6,600 lbs coming out of the scrap yard. I would've guessed the empty truck weight closer to 5,500 lbs, but it's got to be north of 6,000.

Based on that my guesses for weights would be ~5,000 for an F-150 (giving a payload of 1,000 ~ 1,200 lbs), ~5,500 for an F-250 (giving a payload of ~ 2,300 lbs) and ~6,000 for an F-250 HD or F-350 (giving payloads of ~2,700 and ~4,000 lbs).

But again, those are my guesses. You can make your own for purposes of comparison, but weigh your truck if you want a real number.

Also, sorry if anyone answered this but what is the payload difference 150 vs 250?

My personal truck has a gvwr of 6,250 pounds. It’s reg cab, long bed, 351w, 4x4, C6 trans. According to my county’s dump scales my truck weighs 4,760 pounds. That’s with me, my toolbox and tools, etc, the weight I drive around with all the time. So my truck has a payload capacity of 1,490 pounds give or take some depending on who is with me and how much gas I’ve got. NothingSpecial explained it well, that’s just a personal example of an f150 for you if that helps any

Keep us updated on what you figure out.

I know there is no way to create hard numbers once you start modifying your trucks carrying capacity but im curious what you decide and how it works for you.

Will do. Ordering coil springs, bushings, and adjustable camber bushings tonight. After all that is done along with swapping in a motor I just finished, the rear leaf springs will be up next
