Transmission gear shift lever [E2TZ-7210-D] - NOS

Recommended Posts

Note that not all Borg Warner 4-speeds have the same lever length between the pivot and the ball that goes into the shift forks. Read the MPC carefully to make sure this is right for the application.

True, but are you saying that E2TZ 7210-D doesn't fit all T-18's for 1980-86 trucks? :nabble_anim_confused:

Gary, I don’t know for certain, but I’m thinking they may not all be the same. Ken Blythen said he used a T18 shift lever in his close ratio T19. I tried to do the same thing because I like the threaded shift knobs better and the T18 lever end was too long. I know it’s apples and oranges, but it should be double checked... I found a threaded knob lever out of a 70’s international T18 that fit my T19 but it shifted poorly and the cane was too close to the dash.

If the MPC is correct, the T-19's take a different lever than the T-18's. As shown below, which is the whole shift lever listing from the MPC, there are four levers:

  • 1980 - 86 T-18's use E2TZ 7210-D

  • 1987 and later T-18's use E7TZ 7210-H

  • 1983 - 86 T-19's use E5TZ 7210-H

  • 1987 and later T-19's use E7TZ 7210-F

all this talk makes me miss my 85 with the NP435 and that awesome 6.69 first gear:nabble_smiley_cool:

Thanks Gary. I would be interested to know the length on the two (T18 & T19) lever tips. It’s a little curious that the T18 part number is 1982, and that the pic on the eBay ad shows it is a splined knob type. I’m guessing it might replace an earlier part? But then the 1983-1986 lever has a 1985 part number...

NumberDummy said there was one exception to T18/T19 using different levers but did not elaborate. I’m not sure which MPC version he was looking at...

I was hoping that a threaded knob T19-compatible lever might exist... but evidently not from any Ford application 😔.

And just in case anyone is wondering about the 1987 levers for T18 and T19, they straight and look just like the ZF and M5OD shift levers.

I'm sure there were earlier levers for the T-18, but they got superseded in the MPC.

As for the length, I have an '85 T-19 and I could pull the lever and measure it - when the weather improves. It is 40 degrees and the front is almost to Texas, with snow due during the night.

Thanks Gary... I’m guessing your T19 lever is the same as mine. I checked and it’s 3-1/16” from the tip to the pivot. The pivot is a separate piece, held by some kind of wedge or roll pin. It might be possible to move it? It’s a very small detail so I won’t make a federal case out of it right now. I don’t even have the T18 shifter anymore to swap, and I will soon need to run the NP435 to haul the water trailer. I might revisit it at some later date if the T19 goes back in as part of a refurbishment of this truck.

Also, my memory is evidently getting dull. The 1987 levers have the straight cane and angle similar to the ZF shifter, but does not have the thicker bottom section. Pics courtesy of Trent:
