But, doesn't the trim ring just clip onto the carpet? The one that I have has ears that I think are supposed to be tucked under the carpet.

Correct. Which is why I don't think my boot is correct. If I were to put all four folds of the boot through the trim ring with the ring tucked under the vinyl floor, the boot would completely cover the trim ring, making it pointless.

Shaun - What are the part numbers of the boots you found? I can climb the microfiche tower tomorrow and see if the '82 version has the earlier #'s.

The manual transmission boot is E0TZ-7277-A

The transfer case boot is E0TZ-7277-E

The problem I'm having is that the trim ring just seems to be too small and the boot covers most of it. In the pictures I have, the trim ring is clearly visible and the boot doesn't cover it at all. The 80-82(11/81) boots only have four folds like I thought.

In the below photo, only two folds are through the boot, and you can see that they already fill the opening of the trim ring.

In the below photo, it's pretty clear that the trim ring is not obstructed by the boot in any way.

Shaun - Here's what I found in the '82 version of the MPC. Sorry for the poor quality, but it is the best I can do.

Notice that the '82 MPC conflicts with the '94 version, below, in that the '82 says the trim rings were used for 1980 pickups and Broncos only. But the '94 version says the round one was also used on 1981 and '82 Broncos. I wonder which is right? Did the '94 correct an omission in the '82?

So both say that there's only two boots for 80-83. Well I guess the only thing I can do is try and find a junkyard truck that has the trim rings and hope the yard will sell the boots. To most things like that aren't worth it unfortunately.

As for the round rings, I have only seen them on dentsides and Econolines. And let me tell you, they are RARE. Manual Econolines were few and far between back in their heyday.

Yes, the round one should have shown up in '78. And since it was either used for 3 or 5 years then it would be scarce, for sure. Then factor in that the vans rarely came with manuals, and they may be unicorns.

Good friend had a unicorn, 1980 E150, 300 and 4 speed OD manual. Interesting vehicle to drive.

However, I'm pretty sure that the statement on eBay of "73-79 Ford Truck 78 79 Bronco" is incorrect. Here's the entry from the 1973-79 MPC, and you can see that there was no trim ring until '78.

Scored a 3rd tailgate for 50 bucks from North Carolina.

Also, dad replaced the front leaf springs and shocks...wow what a difference, the truck returned to stock heigh and lifted an easy 4 inches.
