WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Nice job Gary! Really clean!

:nabble_anim_claps:

Yes, great minds think alike! That paint does a good job of covering that area of the bumper. And it covers nicely. :nabble_smiley_good:

Jeff - It ALWAYS takes me longer to do "it" than I estimate. Either I'm slow or my estimator is broken. :nabble_smiley_sad:

Yeah, cowl seal is good. Years ago, when I did the cowl seam sealer, I covered the cab of the truck with a tarp and ran it under the hood and closed the hood for the night. About an hour later we had the rainstorm of the century and the next morning [...] All 8 cylinders were totally full of water and I drained about 2 gallons of water out of the crankcase before I even saw any oil.

Your experience highlights the importance of a good sealing washer for the air cleaner cover.

:nabble_smiley_oh:

But I am wondering about the cowl seal itself (which I have on Big Brother). What about this big hole above the wiper motor?

It is very close to the Air Cleaner cover... Isn't it a potential water pouring on this cover (even if a good cowl seal is installed and well sealed)?

There is supposed to be a access cover that covers over that hole.

The interior cowl seal that goes underneath the cowl keeps water from gaining access when that access cover is in place.

I will try and find a picture of that access cover, or find it in the MPC. Watch this space. :nabble_smiley_happy:

Yep, this exact same OEM part is for sale on eBay.

I found one at my local salvage yard (10$) on my lunch time. Good shape, need a little cleaning. Not from a Bullnose, was on a '91 Bricknose.

Cowl-2.jpg.1e9a9595143a3090ca3f87e9deddaf57.jpg

But I am wondering about the application year. Was it the exact same part since 1980?

The only Bullnose pictures I found on the web don't show it clearly, although it seems to took similar, but not identical:

The one I bought (Bricknose)

EDIT:

Found better Bullnose picture on the web. The cover shape is different from the Bricknose one:

First picture shows a Bricknose cover, the two other ones show a Bullnose:

Since the Bricknose cowls fit maybe that piece will as well?

Gary, I'll try it and see if it fits. It's just disappointing that I have to pull out the Cowl Grill to discover the truth...

:nabble_smiley_sad:

If there was a different part number between Bricknoses and Bullnoses, would be easier.

The E7TZ-15022A08-A Part Number according to the MPC fits 1980 to the end of the catalog which is 1989.

So 1980 to at least 1989 F-100/F-350/U-150. I would guess 1980 until 1991 as the 1992-1996 cowl is different yet again.

I looked the same root 022A08 number up in my older catalog and got E5TZ-15022A08-A which fits 1980-1985 F-100/F-350/U-150.

I would bet there is also a E0TZ-15022A08-? number as well but cannot confirm that.

I would say they were redesigned slightly to cause a new part number, but they still will work and fit. Or the MPC is wrong. :nabble_anim_crazy:
