WHYDTYTT: What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?

Recommended Posts

Hit the jackpot today. Went to a scrapyard and they had a bullnose f250....I picked some interior pieces I'd wanted but was a tad bit let down that they only had the one unit. There's one other scrap yard in the town I was in (Texarkana,TX) and decided to go ahead and take a look. I also have been building a jeep wj for several years and I'm always snagging parts for it. that's when I hit the JACKPOT Three bullnose units two of which are practically complete! I've been picking parts for years and these are top quality! I loaded up with parts.... bought the entire bed of one of them, I go pick it up in a week or so. Scored a real nice Grant steering wheel ($10) a NICE front grille....lots and lots of parts! I'm pumped.

I love those junkyard finds, I have most of a red interior from a bullnose f250 now collecting moss in my parts truck that I pulled one day.

I may stick with blue this time so if anyone is interested keep in mind I have it!

Also Today I’ve been prepping for new seals all around the cab. And cleaned out the air vent channel. I also just ordered nearly a complete set from LMC.

I’ve been removing old silicon caulking from around the windshield to prep it for a specialist… going to see if he save the old glass and get it sealed for me or just replace the glass altogether (which I would rather not do)

If you have the glass replaced make sure they put the right glass in. The newer windshields fit, but obscure the VIN. I suspect that is illegal, but the glass companies do it all the time. And it can be a huge pain when you sell a vehicle. HUGE!

Understood

I was recommended this glass place because he’s worked with older vehicles. I’ll confirm with him that some old style glass without the black obstruction.

Also today I just got these bad boys put on.. I was originally aiming for some skinny bias plies but prices are too high and they are backordered for over 6 months.

I found a set of these KO2’s in my size and they don’t look too bad. Not too fat either.

Wheels could use some sanding and fresh rustoleum ;)

Started my engine after sitting for several 5+ years. Truck was last registered in 2009, previous owner said it ran since then, but at least 5 years. I was careful careful in the process of starting it up for the first time. Wiring was fried on the ignition so I opted for a single wire distributor, ease of connection and losing all the old wiring was appealing to me. I know this set up has it's critics, but to each his own. Rebuilt the carb, ended up marrying a Chinese carb with the float bowl of the factory carb, mine has a AOD and I needed the linkage. In hindsight there were multiple ways to fix this, and likely I could have done the same thing with a scrap yard Carter YF and a rebuild. This work around worked fine for me. Replaced all fluids, plugs and flushed radiator. Checked all connections and installed a hot battery. Little get-er-done 91 done her throat and away she went after just a few spins. Ii adjusted time and carb and it idled off a jug of gas reaching temp with no apparent issues, aside from yet another ignition switch issue or a bad relay not letting it shut off. I'll find that issue another day. But all in all I'm satisfied that today is a win!

Confetti, nice tires!

Mark, nice, that’s a good feeling for it to start and run like that!

Mark, Did you put the base from the AOD (upper pic) on to the standard trans ( lower pic ) ?

If so, was it a simple parts swap, or did you have to modify anything. Thanks, Bill

Yes sir that's exactly what I did. I had preemptively bought the carb without studying exactly what I needed. Mine was a factory feedback carb, and the primary reason I swapped the top was, on the feedback there were additional ports that I was unaware of it would affect anything if I just left them, likely it wouldn't have. But one of my goals is to eliminate anything not required, I want a clean engine bay.

But yes basically I used the top half of the eBay carb and it bolted right in place of the factory unit, along with a rebuild kit and wha-laa good as New.

Side note almost every screw in the Chinese carb were loose....not really loose but absolutely not tight, so a word to the wise I don't know if they are all built that way, but for anyone using one I'd definitely recommend going through it if possible.

Mark,

Thank you so much, I will now do the swap as soon as i get in the (I need to go work on my truck mood).

It's ok but needs a new carb, has a starving for fuel problem.

Thanks, Bill

Man, look at the traction those tires have! :nabble_smiley_evil:

Seriously though, they are good looking tires. I may go for some like them.

Mark - Well done on the engine, carb, and wiring. :nabble_smiley_good:
