Project MPG

Recommended Posts

Today I was talking with Scotty The Mad Porter and he suggested that I take the "silencers" out of Big Blue's to-be air intake system. I thought "I've heard of doing that, but where was that?" So I did some searching and found it - a magazine article called Project MPG.

I'd found a copy of this online some time ago and downloaded it then, and after skimming it again decided y'all might enjoy reading it. Here 'tis:

EDIT: There appears to be a problem with iOS devices seeing this file. So if you are having trouble you can download it here or read it on the Four Wheeler site.

That article disappears when I scroll down.

Dane - Put your cursor in the window of the article when you scroll. Then you are scrolling the article and not the web page. Put your cursor outside of that and you'll scroll the web page.

Steve - I've seen it several times over the years, and even downloaded it. But it took me a while to find it where I'd saved it, so thought I'd share it here so all could see and I could find it.

Yes, it does debunk several things. For instance:

  • Inlet Air Temp: The best power and MPG was achieved with a K&N air cleaner element in the stock box and the whole inlet air system wrapped with insulating tape. Using a K&N open air cleaner element sucking hot air actually hurt MPG compared to stock.

  • Overdrive: A Gear Vendors OD behind the C6 improved highway MPG by 18%.

  • Exhaust: They saw a 2% increase in MPG as well an increase in power and decrease in elapsed time on acceleration with headers. But I get lost in exactly what system did best, although at one point they say a single exhaust pipe does better than duals.

Anyway, and intriguing write up.

Interesting! When I scroll up it’s gone. On an iPad.

Dane - Please try it again. I may have learned something. I had the width set to 100% of screen size, which worked perfectly on my Windows devices. But, on Janey's iPad Pro and my iPhone X absolutely nothing came up. Zip. Nada.

So I changed the width to 95% and magically it now works some of the time on both devices. It comes up initially, but if I try to do much with it, like scrolling around, it goes away until I refresh the screen. Then it usually comes back, but not always.

But, I'd like your observations, please. Something's not right, but I don't want to go tilting at windmills until I have more input.

Ok, when I click on the time the last post was made and then go up it is not there.

When I click on the topic it’s there and I can scroll the magazine but I only see half of the page. When I scroll down to see the whole page it disappears.

Clearly there's a problem, Houston.

That's me - CONFUSED! And CONCERNED! I'm now wondering how many of my embedded documents are not usable by iOS users.

Have you had similar problems on other posts? What about pages on the documentation part of the website, like the Driveline/Axles page, which has embedded docs on the Instructions tab?
