First Drive in a While!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

After working through a bunch of issues with my truck over the past year or so, I was FINALLY able to take her out for a drive this weekend (not just a test-run). I know that might not sound like a big deal to many, but I've had a really hard time finding some good mechanics to help me tackle the jobs that I'm not able to handle myself (largely due to time constraints &/or just not having the space to do the work).

I've also found it interesting that many young(er) mechanics in my area just don't know how to work on these older trucks, and it's even harder finding the older mechanics who can, as they often don't advertise online or offline - seeming to prefer to get work via word-of-mouth &/or referrals from other, local shops.

While my truck still has a rear main seal issue that needs to be dealt with - along with some other bugs that I'm trying to iron out - just being able to head down to my local Home Depot to pick up some building materials and run some errands reminded me of why I like the truck so much and how practical it is.

People still like to talk to me about the truck in parking lots and gas stations, & I've noticed that other, newer trucks like to park near mine when there are other spaces closer to the store, which I think is cool.

Well, just wanted to share this short, feel-good story. Thanks for reading!

That's a HUGE deal!

It must feel good. :nabble_smiley_good:

Gary and I talk about this all the time.

Kids in a parts store have never seen a carburetor or points.

People young and old want to chat about something they can identify with.

The kid at Citgo begs me to sell Lil' Red to him every time I get gas.

Well, how old is the "kid?" Carburetors ended in about 1987 and points long before that. :nabble_anim_blbl:

So 'the kid' (even if he was born 10 years before) might not have ever seen one.

Not all counter*persons are gear heads.

So that could be up to 42 years old?!?!?.

How old are the clerks (*associates) at most chain stores?

My son (kid) is *almost41!. :nabble_head-slap-23_orig: (7/31/78)

I don't think he'd know what to do with either of those

That's the truth. I've been dealing with a couple of yutes lately at NAPA, and neither of them know what I'm talking about most of the time. The young lady I understand the reason (well, two reasons...) they hired her, but him, I haven't the faintest idea.

I thought that was amazingly civil compared to how I really feel about having my kid stolen. 😉
