odo
I picked up this f-150 yesterday for cheap. Bought for a daily driver/farm truck combo. The boy i got it from said the ignition switch was bad. He had somebody install a push button. I went yesterday and got a new ignition switch, new coil, and new ignition module(fender mounted). I put a new battery in the truck, Installed the new ignition switch and get nothing when in the run or accessory position. I have power to the fuse box and all fuses are good. Any ideas on what is going on will be welcomed. Any help will be greatly appreciated. David 86 f150 4x4 4.9 4-speed
Gary Lewis
David - You did post in the main section! Perfect! I'm going to guess that your ignition switch isn't correctly adjusted. See the instructions on the Ignition Switch tab here: http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/ignition.html. However, if it is a tilt column there's a part that frequently breaks and can cause similar problems. Test each wire, according to this diagram & its caption: https://supermotors.net/getfile/831772/thumbnail/igswlogic.jpg It had nothing in any position. I put the new switch in this afternoon. Got it adjusted. Fixed the wiring under the hood from the guy putting in the push button and it now turns over with the key again. Next step is replacing the fuel pump, replacing the fuel tank/or fixing the old one, welding in a new rocker and cab corner on the drivers side........ Thanks for the help guys!! I’m a diesel mechanic by trade....the sad part is it’s been years since I touched an older ford. Most of what I do now is diesel powered water pumps.....stepping back to my roots with this onion..... I would say the switch is going to the off position because it cuts power to the blower motor......I pulled the positive cable but had to choke out the engine to shut it down. I believe the wiring on the start relay is not right but cant blow up the diagram enough to see what's what on my phone.
