Dual position mirror [E0TZ-17696-D] - NOS

1982 was the last year for those mirror heads. It's an easy way to identify an 82 because it will have a blue oval in the grille, no hood letters, and it will have the newer style emblems, and yet it will have the 80-81 mirror heads (when equipped with the swing-lock style mirrors).

1982 was also the last year for the 6.6 400 V8. ;)

Shaun - As the phrase goes, I can neither confirm nor deny that 1982 was the last year for the 6" x 9" angular mirrors. But, while the MPC says that they were used from 1980 on, the dealer fact books appear to refute that. Unfortunately while my 1983 facts book's Options & Accessories section starts at "T", the 1984 book is complete and there's no mention of the 6"x9" mirrors as an option.

So, that would appear to confirm it. :nabble_smiley_wink:

Unfortunately it's hard to confirm something like that, due to varying leftover availability of parts at each factory. Kinda like how 1996 wasn't technically the last year of the OBS F-Series, and also why the F600+ trucks carried 1980-1986 dashes and door panels all the way until 1999. Dealer upgrades and swap-outs can make a difference too.

If you ever take a look at the 1980-1981 brochures, you'll notice a third option, which is similar if not an exactg match to the 1978-1979 square head mirrors, like shown below. Yet, I have seen very few, if any actual 1980-1981 trucks wearing that style of mirror.

Now that I look at the brochure again, I see there's a fourth option, which is also borrowed from the later Dentside trucks and Broncos. Again, I've seen very few of these in my internet travels.

The ones in the original post (the eBay listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/392244467176 ) are normal chiselled-head mirrors on a hi-low recreation arm, but with the rare 2-position added arm and 3-bolt mounting pads.

Both of those are shown in that brochure, but I don't see where the 2-position is mentioned. The standard (crappy car-size) mirror is on the brochure's cover. The western low-mount is mentioned, but I don't see it.

Those black ones don't look like OE mirrors - the heads are screwed to the swivel balls, and the door mounting pads are flat (no lip to hide the plastic gaskets). Also: the upper section of the hi-lo arm is not horizontal; it angles down, relative to the door surface.

Those black mirrors are from a 78-79 F-Series truck, maybe earlier. I've come across them on numerous trucks of that era, so I believe them to be original since I've seen them in both the 78-79 literature, as well as the 80-81 literature.

Looking at the brochure, most of the swing lock mirrors that are shown look to be from 78-79.
