New Page: Interchange

Recommended Posts

Striker Bolts: 80-96/7 door strike bolts interchange, but the later (possibly '89-96/7) bolt's shield reduces the door's tendency to jam in a collision.

My 1986 had the black shields, so they came much earlier than 89.

Beds: However, the # of bolts went from 8 in 1980-84 to 6 for 1985 and on, as shown on the Suspension & Steering/Body Mounts & Hardware page, which includes a description of the bolts as well as part numbers. But, 1987 and later beds do fit on 1985 and '86 trucks w/o change since they share the 6-bolt pattern.

My 1986 frame (stamped with E7TA, so it's a late frame) still has the holes for the extra bolts from 1980-1984. And the bed floor not only has the indentation, but there is still a crossmember in that spot with the hole drilled in it as well. The only thing missing is the hole in the bed floor, and whatever "key" is supposed to match the bolt to keep it from spinning. So a 1980-1984 bed should fit on an 85-86 and still be able to use all eight mounting bolts.

Shaun - That's really good info. Especially about the bed. That makes interchange much easier. Thanks!

Now I have to find time to update some things..... :nabble_anim_working:

For anyone who cares: I finished the disk axle swap this evening, but I haven't driven the truck with it yet. This is the first new pic (for those who remember reading the older ones):

But this will show the whole album with all the captions on one page:

Yes, it does look good! Have you had it on the road? What do you think of the brakes? How does the ebrake work? That was a neat solution.

I finished after dark last night, so I'm about to go out & look over everything again before driving it.

But I'm having the crappy satellite internet removed from the house first, and that guy is about to arrive.

ATT/Dish keeps wanting to sell us satellite internet service. NO WAY, JOSE! I don't like our internet service provider, but their service continues to work through most of the storms we have while the satellite TV, and presumably the satellite internet, fails. And, since our storm shelter is in the shop and I stream TV to the shop to watch the weather when it looks bad, there's no way I will go satellite for my internet.

Plus, having retired from IT, with a lot of networking experience, I know all about the delay. (I once had the #2 guy in Conoco, UK ask me, in church, to fix the delay problem. He was an engineer so I scribbled the equation for the distance and the speed of light and showed him that it can't be "fixed".) And since we do a lot of Facetime with our grandkids there's no way I want that delay inserted in those conversations.

Rare '80-?86 Bronco 3rd-Row Jump Seats are identical to '7?-8? Datsun/Nissan King Cab jump seats (even though not a Ford source, it's the same part).

I was just searching the forum and came across this. My 1991 F250 extended cab parts truck has those rear jump seats factory. Not sure how common of an option it is on the extended cab trucks, but it is the only extended cab I have seen with those seats.

Good to know. It confirms what Steve was saying.
