TSB Organization, Presentation, etc

Ok, I've changed the names/URL's for all of the TSB's so they start with the # and then have a little bit of what the TSB is about. And, I've added "redirects" so that any links that might be stashed somewhere out there go to the newly-named page instead of getting a 404 error.

So, see what y'all think, please.

I hadn't looked before (because I don't really have a bullnose), but I went to the last link you posted in this thread, clicked the last "TSB Index Spreadsheet" tab at the top, and saw this text: Tell Microsoft your thoughts about using this embedded spreadsheet.

...below a small empty text box. Each of those lines had a "broken image" icon beside it, and the page below was blank, down to a tab at the bottom that said "Body Windnoise Water Leaks Trim". I refreshed the page, clicked the tab again, and got the same stuff.

Steve - That's bizarre. And really disappointing. I sometimes get a red box in the upper left corner that suggests that if you click on it you'll get the file, but it doesn't seem to work. But a refresh brings in the spreadsheet. Can you, please, try it again this morning?

Everyone - Please go to the TSB Index and click on the TSB Index Spreadsheet tab and then tell us if the spreadsheet comes in for you.

Works fine for me. Red tab, get a "circle" spinning followed by Excel online and the list comes up fairly quickly.

Bill - GOOD! It works for Brandon/Bruno2 as well, even on his phone.

Steve83 - If I remember correctly you once said that your ISP isn't very fast. Is it possible that is the issue? I would have thought it would have eventually loaded, but perhaps it times out?

Today is different - no red tabs across the top; just a gray one labelled "F-Series TSB Index - OCRd Editable : Body Windnoise Water Leaks Trim". At the bottom, there are 2 pan bars; if I slide the first (longer, lower) one to the R, there's a stack of 2 tiny arrowheads ( > above <) at the far R end that do nothing. Sliding the 2nd (shorter, upper) one shows more columns (mostly empty) of the spreadsheet - some missing their cell outlines, but all with lighter outlines. The only one (of the light-gray cells) that appears to have any data says "★ - Indicates Special Service Information" probably 1/4 down from the top in the last column. It's hard to give you locations because the spreadsheet displays larger than the page (meaning I can't see the top rows and the lower pan bars at the same time), and its scroll bar is past the light-gray cells (meaning I can't see it & the first few columns at the same time).

Yes, I still have the crappy ISP, but with the current (clear) weather here, pages (from all over the web) are loading quickly & completely. I'm on the new (refurb) computer now (HP z420), with a clean install of Win10Prox64, and new larger Samsung curved monitor, browsing in Chrome. Shift+F5 gets me exactly the same thing.

Time for another update. At our church luncheon today I talked with a web designer about having things found in a search. He agrees with my thinking that Google either won't index a document that is not "public" or won't show it in search results. Either way, it isn't going to be seen.

But, he did tell me of a step that I've missed on on-line documents - publishing them. It is easily done on Google, and while it appears to be an option on Excel as well, it isn't as easily done. So, I moved the index spreadsheet to my Google Drive, made it public to anyone on the web, and also published it. Then I revised the TSB/TSB Index page on the website to only have the Google spreadsheet on the page and not the two pdf versions of it, and told Google to index it again.

I'm hoping that having only one document on the TSB page instead of three will cause fewer problems like Steve83 had last night. The spreadsheet is only 103Kb where the two pdf's were 27Mb each. And, I hope that Google will index that spreadsheet and people can find the TSB's through the # or the description.

If that works, the TSB index will be the portal to all the TSB's. So a search for the TSB # or for words in the description should turn it up and clicking on the link will take the user to the TSB here on the website.

Steve - I just saw your post, and you've found the changed TSB page. The arrows are because I still have a lot of learning to do about iframes, which is the way files are embedded. But I think there's a way to turn them off. And, to clean up most of the rest of the issues.

However, are you not seeing what I'm seeing? Here's my whole screen on this tablet at 100% zoom. What zoom ratio are you using? Can you post a screen shot?

Looks pretty similar to mine, which is always 100% zoom. The top half of this pic is how the page loads, without doing anything. The bottom half is scrolled to the bottom of your page, and then both pan bars all the way right.

Ok, thanks. Looks like it is working pretty well, but I want to disable scrolling. My first attempt didn't work, so I'm reading up on coding for that. And, I want to clean some of the formatting up. Also, I corrected the broken links.

STOP THE PRESS: Google has already found the spreadsheet! I had it search for "Body/Windnoise/Water Leaks/Trim", and it found it. :nabble_anim_jump:

So, I think we are "open for business"! :nabble_smiley_super:

I'm starting to PDF the ones I want. When you give me the list of the ones you want, I'll put them in my queue.

Wow! Lots of work for me. But, I'm loving it. Thanks.

I'm going to be powder coating today, so will have some time while the parts are in the oven. I doubt I'll get all that done then, but I'll get it done - probably during tonight's football game. :nabble_smiley_good:

As for which ones I'd like, I really haven't looked. So just keep them coming. I have a folder for "Unprocessed TSB's" and then the "Processed TSB's" and will just keep adding what you sent to the unprocessed and will work them when I can.
