Scrapping an F100...

Recommended Posts

I'm sending an '81 F100 away this weekend. Not much left -it's pretty picked over.

But, one item that I've never seen is that it has idiot lights instead of oil and charge guages. Anyone need that style of cluster?

The truck was a strippo special - small mirrors, manual steering and brakes, 300 and a 3 on the tree.

Not much left, but if anyone needs anything, let me know and I'll see if I can help out.

Do you still have the 3 on the tree column? The parts in there are rare on a good day, and people will pay for them. Not every day mind you, but people do show up from time to time looking for 3 on the tree bits and pieces. I sold a bunch of column parts on Facebook a while back...had them sold an hour after listing, but I had to ship them to NJ.

PS: That sure does sound like a bare bones special of a truck;). RIP...lol.

I wondered if I should save the column... It's all there except the lever. The truck currently has a 4 speed in it. Columns don't take up much storage space!

I saw one listed on Ebay not all that long ago for $500+. Not saying that it would actually sell for that, but the seller thought it worth a try. If it were me I'd hang on to it and try to sell it whole or for parts. I sold just the internals parts of mine for around $100, and that included some new bushings and wear parts.

There are no new parts of the 3 on the tree column, by Ford or anybody else, so people do look for them every now and then.

Have a heat selector cable?

I'm sure the heater cables are still there, i can grab them if they look good. No pics, the truck is currently at my son's house, about 200 miles away.

The seat is there, but really rough. Poor upholstery and the frame has some patches welded onto it.

I bought the truck for body parts - it's the same color as one of my trucks, and for the 5x5.5 axles so that I can run the factory wagon wheels on my truck. As stated, it's a rough old truck, but surprisingly has very little rust.

I've also wondered if the clutch linkage is worth saving for anyone if it's good? I know that all of the parts have been discontinued by Ford. I had a customer just last week that needed the pivot stud from the block. Even unavailable, I couldn't offer him parts from my personal stash...

Yes, the clutch linkage is good to keep. The pivot on the engine/tranny side is hard to come by and tough to make.

Yea, let me know if it the cable is decent. Mine seized up and snapped last year. So now I’m manually changing it between seasons.

If I remember right those are obsolete now for an 81’.

Mine has the idiot lights too. Is that uncommon?
