salans7 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Thats quite a bit of documentation for this old of a truck! I used to keep records of what I did to my white Ranger, but after 14 years and 230,000 miles, it's not really worth it anymore because I won't be selling the truck.

Yes I agree... this previous owner has taught me a thing or 2 about leaving information behind for the next owner. I document everything via photos on my phone but it serves me in the short term and I forget. Honestly I don't recall when I did the oil change on my Bronco. I may have to go read a post here, or check the photos on my phone to figure out.. millennial problems I guess 😞
viven44 Posted November 11 Author Posted November 11 I have been trying to baseline the truck. The temp gauge doesn't work but the gauge responds to the grounding test so it's the temp sending unit. I was doing my IR thermometer test and realized during hot idling, the baseline reading on the thermostat housing for 460s with a 195F thermostat (BB 2WD and Stripes) is about ~207F and 180F Thermostat (Bronco) is ~197F. That aside, the only gripe at this time seems to be the truck wanting to pull to the left if I brake hard. I'll need to get to the bottom of this soon probably. I tried to take IR temp reading on the rotors (both sides were at ~240F and front hub was ~100F on both sides... and the rear drums were at ~100F on both sides). Nothing obvious standing out.. 1

(10) Facebook The owner has no idea or recollection of this job about 9 years ago. They don't keep records that far and also indicated they don't anymore do stock rebuilds.. If he had done this job he would have done the following - 0.030 overbore - RV cam - straight up timing set with ford racing fuel pump eccentric Gibbs racing oil was recommended back then (Agrees with the notes left) but these days he would use Lucas Hotrod oil so the cam doesn't go flat - Recommendation of 93 octane ? He said it was because maybe the previous owner wanted the engine to run good. "A lot of old timers believed in good gas" Edited November 13 by viven44

I've checked front brakes - wheels spin free with front axle jacked up - with engine off, and pressing the brake pedal I can confirm both brakes work well Can rear brakes cause pulling to one side ? About to check them tomorrow...
Gary Lewis Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Yes, rear can do that. Dad taught me to tighten the adjuster wheel until I can’t rotate the tire by hand. Bang on the backing plate with a rubber mallet to center the shoes, and go again. When you finally can’t turn the tire by hand even after banging on the backing plate loosen the adjust 10 clicks. 1

Gary Lewis Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Someone said "Don't go under it." Anyway, if you have 5 3/4" from the spring to the bump stop when jacked up that is your articulation/travel. So the axle dropped 5 3/4 - 3 1/2" = 2 1/4", which is what I thought you'd measure - from the outside where it is safe. You have about 3x the travel that a leaf-sprung TTB has. That means you have a more supple suspension and it'll ride better (in spite of what some people say on Fakebook) and handle off-road conditions better.

Allison Terry just doesn’t listen 🤦🏻♂️🤣 So, on your truck you measure 10” between bump stop and spring while jacked up ? 😳 Saw about 5.25” on the Bronco while jacked up and around 1.75” in regular stance
