Gary Lewis Posted November 1 Posted November 1 As Shaun warned, I'm having fits finding a replacement taillight for Big Blue. All I can tell y'all is not to buy any of the current crop of TYC units as they do not fit. My first order was from RareElectrical and I got a left and a right unit from TYC - and neither fit. So I ordered from Garage-Pro because their pic online showed a lens with a black plastic back instead of the silver that the recent TYC units have. But I got another TYC unit and it won't fit. So I'll return it as well. I just turned this review into Amazon: This is yet-another TYC taillight that does not fit. They are making them too tall. In the first two pictures, which are of an original Ford taillight, you can see that it is 12 11/16" long. But in the 2nd two pics, which are of the TYC unit, it is 12 7/8" long. In the 5th pic you can see that the extra length is where the plastic pieces stick out on the bottom. And in the last two pics you can see how the original light fits with about 1/8" of clearance and the TYC unit hits and won't go in. I don't know if Amazon will publish this review because they didn't publish the first one I did on RareElectrical. Anyway, here are the pics: 1
Xr650jkallen Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Thank you for the warning, I have been looking at the TYC ones from RockAuto. Looks like a polish and clearcoat for my factory lenses is in order.
Gary Lewis Posted November 1 Author Posted November 1 The old ones I have are badly faded and no amount of polishing will bring them back because the damage is all the way through the plastic. I've already tried that and it didn't work. So I need new lenses. But the only way to make the TYC ones fit is to file them down a bit. I don't want to do that when the problem is with the manufacturer, but if I can't find better ones I'll do it instead of running the old ones. 1
Xr650jkallen Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Mine look identical to yours, I have polished mine with little success. I may attempt to clear coat them and see what that does.
mat in tn Posted November 2 Posted November 2 this is not a new issue. the truth is that there is little interest in a quality manufacturer to do these parts when it comes down to having to compete with cheap imports on price. personally, I would be willing to pay for good oem replacements, but market demand is what it is. so, I have cleaned up my share of new lenses with a file. normally I'm installing them on new paint and it's worth it to me to "fit" them properly and avoid chipping new paint anyway. don't get to put out over having to finish the job if you can do it. 2
viven44 Posted November 2 Posted November 2 At least these are not $5600 each!! Like the ones on the 2018 F150 Limited. 1

This is what I had to do for Big Bro, but curiously on passenger's side only. The driver's one fitted correctly. The two were TYC, but not ordered from the same seller. Different batches?
Ifitaintbroke Posted November 2 Posted November 2 I might order some at work and see if they fit the 250. If I run into the same issue, I'll get ahold of the product manager that's over them and see what can be done about it. 1 1

Just trying to understand.
