I would agree with that. It sounds like if I put everything in the compressor, I'm likely to overfill and damage stuff... There is a ratio of how refrigerant is distributed in a system, it is documented well. I'd use that as the guide.

Well it looks like the ratio of how things would look based on my guess is as follows... this is based on the 1985 FSM (screenshot below) ..

 

On a system that is running, I'm going to guess the ratio would be as follows...

Evaporator core : 3 Oz

Condenser: 1 Oz

Accumulator and Compressor: 6Oz

 

So I'd install the compressor with 6Oz and pour the remainder in a hose going to the condenser... refrigerant will distribute automatically to the proper ratio
