Headlights not working-but all other lights do

Recommended Posts

Just wanting to know best way to decipher why headlights aren’t working. I bought a test light and I see no power at the headlights. The test light switch showed power at ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘R’ posts. Is that expected? What position should key be in?

Parking lights work. Cab lights work. Dome and dash lights work. Tested all fuses and they are good.

Thoughts?

The headlights don't use a fuse, as you can see in the 1985 EVTM here. And the troubleshooting tips in the EVTM say that if you don't have headlights but the park lamps work you should check the dimmer switch.

Kcinga, does your truck happen to have an add on relay kit for the headlamps?

It sounds like my first step is the dimmer switch. I went out to check mine out and it’s like a rock. No movement downward at all. I’ll look into replacing that and I’ll report back. Thanks!

That did it! Thanks!! My existing dimmer switch came off in pieces. Installed new one and headlights are working. Looks like one of my low beams are out, but otherwise they’re good.
