WTB: factory tachometer

Firehawk618, are you selling the 4500 diesel tach? If so, I am interested in more details and price!

If he isn't, let me know and I can see what I have for diesel tachs. I am also planning to head to the jy this weekend so can look there for one as well as any other requests people have. Not really looking for anything myself this time - I just enjoy wandering the rows.

Yes, I would be interested in the 4500 tachometer as well as the wiring if possible. If not, can the wiring harness / plug be purchased separately?

The tach was an option on 85/86 diesels. If you have one of those years, the wiring should already be there. You just need the tach, the circuit film on the back of the cluster that has the tach terminals (same as gas circuit film) and the sensor that screws into the injection pump gear housing. 85/86 will have a threaded plug there if no sensor is installed. 83/84 diesels didn’t have the tach option, and the gear cover does not have the port. It is a good bit more work because you need to swap the gear cover from a later 6.9 or 7.3 IDI. You really have to know what you are doing so you don’t get the engine out of time. Then you need to add the wiring yourself. I have a diagram if you need it.

Ford F834, thank you for the reply! I've got a 1984, so unfortunately this will not work for me unless I swap the covers with the risk of fudging the timing up. I really appreciate your input, cheers!

If you are careful, it’s not a big deal, but you do have to be aware of it... and it is a much larger job. If you decide you want to do it let me know and I can help with directions and probably parts if you need them.

Good info - didn't know about the 84 to 85 difference. Too bad it's not a simple plug and play but I'll still keep an eye out for one on my next trip.
