Sway bar bracket mismatch

Recommended Posts

I’m looking for the correct bracket. I have a mismatched set. See this pic and and the problem is obvious:

The mounting holes are slightly off so the bar mounts crooked. I guess they came from different years and there were slight changes. The one on the left is the best fit and I want it’s mate. The one on the left is E8TA-5D485-DA. The one on the right is E1TA-5C495AA. I’m guessing that the part that I’m looking for is E8TA-5C495-DA but when I search for that I get nothing back. Any help with a searchable part number would be greatly appreciated.

Chad - I know that you know that any number on a part is not a part number. Instead it is an ID #.

The master parts catalog shows mainly part numbers, but does show a few ID #'s. Unfortunately your ID # of E8TA-5C495-DA doesn't show. However, the MPC does show PN E1TZ 5D485-B for the R.H bracket and E1TZ 5D485-A for the L.H bracket.

Tomorrow I'll use the cross reference to see what PN E8TA-5C495-DA is.

So funny story. I ordered E1TZ 5D485-A and E1TZ 5D485-B and I got this mismatched set. They seemed to have changed at some point but the part number didn’t. :nabble_anim_confused:

Greens has 7 of the LH brackets listed in stock. I may give them a call and see if they can compare or send photos or something.

This is confusing, but here's what the 1991 Master Cross Reference List says, remembering that the Master Parts Catalog says you want "PN E1TZ 5D485-B for the R.H bracket and E1TZ 5D485-A for the L.H bracket":

Identifaction # Part #

  • E8TA 5C495-DA is E1TZ 5D485-B

  • EDE1TA 5C495-AA is E1TZ 5D485-B

  • E8TA 5D485-DA is E1TZ 5D485-A

That's what I thought. Looks like they did change the part slightly without changing the part number. Thanks for checking Gary.

That is why it has different engineering numbers. It's how engineering keeps tract of the changes.

So in their wisdom, it wasn't enough of a difference to generate a new Part Number. :nabble_smiley_cry:

This happens a lot really. And can be a real problem.

For Example:

Explorer Bedside Nameplate: Part Number: D3TZ-9925622-D

Engineering Number D3TB-9925622-DB

Mounting Posts: Five

Engineering Number D6TB-9925622-BA

Mounting Posts: Three

They BOTH have the same part number, and they will both fit 1973-1975 F-series and Bronco without modification. And they both look identical from the outside. But if you have a 1976-1984 F-series, and you try to fit the earlier D3TB engineering number part on your truck, you will find you have to drill two holes for it to work.

---------------------------

So I am not surprised at them not being the same or compatible with the exact same part number. Wonder if you can modify it?
