Ford Pickup Names - Hagerty

Recommended Posts

Ran across this article in Hemmings today called Officially, They're Just The F-series. But Ford Pickup Fans Have Much More Imaginative Nicknames. It is interesting, especially the bit about our trucks:

1980-1986: With the first all-new chassis since 1965, Ford made a number of significant changes to the F-Series. First, the solid-axle four-wheel-drive front end gave way to the Twin Traction Beam design. Second, Ford added a 6.9L diesel V-8 developed with International Harvester for the F-250 and F-350, the first oil burner for Ford light-duty trucks. The F-100 model designation went away early in the generation, though Ford added a Blue Oval badge to the grille that has remained on full-size Ford pickups ever since.

Naming Convention: From focusing on the sides, Ford truck enthusiasts now started to direct their attention to the schnozz with the Bullnose nickname. We've also occasionally seen these referred to as Slantnoses, but Bullnose seems to win out on the open market.

Price Range: The Hemmings Price Guide suggests an average asking price of $15,000, and our current crop of Bullnose classifieds seems to bear that out. Yeah, these used to be dirt cheap, but sub-$5,000 examples are the exception now rather than the norm. The trucks seem to top out at $20,000 in the majority of Classic.com's reported sales.

My question is, are these trucks F-150s (and -250s, etc) or F150s??

Good question, Matthew. But that isn't the only question. We'd need to know the engine, bed style, 4wd or 2wd, and condition. Here's a view of the basically the same truck save for 150 vs 250 vs 350:

Where did you get those values from?

Nada Guide redirects to jdpower and for a 1982 F150 short bed with a 302 V8 its only showing a high value of $19,175 while you are showing a 6 cylinder long bed for $20,500.

On a side note its a shame value guides dont make mention of flare side for our trucks or dealer options such as dealer A/C. Might not be factory A/C but the truck still has A/C.

Those are from Hagerty. I have Big Blue insured with them and that gives me access to their evaluator. They base the prices on sales across the US that they are tracking. But, the prices of these trucks vary widely by region and they don't take that into account.
