The part we have carries an E0TZ prefix, so it came out in 1980. But the 1973-79 master parts catalog shows that one LAMP ASSY. (ENGINE COMPARTMENT) came out in '73, another in '75, and yet another one in '78. So there were earlier versions, although I don't know what the differences were.

.... otherwise, the truck runs and drives fine (knocks on wood). The white wire is a replacement wire that I put in to replace a section of burnt wire I found. It is the taped black wire indicated with the red arrows: The grey connector is on the drivers side of the vehicle, on the firewall in the engine compartment below the brake master.

The front locations look ideal as they'll shower the whole engine compartment with light. And while your body will block light from some of the LEDs hitting whatever you are working on, light from the others should fill in. But will the light from the rear strips be right in your eyes? I guess...

Of course Gary has it illustrated here: http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/engine-compartment-lamp.html And it appears in the '85 EVTM on pg 86, here: http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/courtesy-dome--cargo-lamps.html But I don't know where to find the lamp designation. I'm sure an even brighter LED can be sourced, using less power and creating less heat.

Anybody found an LED bulb that fits in to replace the type 68 incandescent in this device? There isn't enough room under that plastic dome for the bulky LED bulbs that I have on hand. They need to have that dual contact base. The socket does not ground it. https://www.lmctruck.com/1980-96-ford/under-hood/fd-1980-86-utility-lamp-components-engine-compartment

E2TB-15550-AA is an ID # not a part number. (Any number on a Ford part is not a part number.) I'll check in the morning to see what part number it cross references to. However, I'm very confused as our listing (Documentation/Underhood/Engine Compartment Lamp) shows an E0TZ 15702-A, not E0 or...
