Dave, I lucked out, and the new housing from Rock Auto (4 Seasons brand) was identical. Only difference is that it had a removeable plug on the neck and my original was permanently plugged. I got some more work done to the old girl today. Few more things to work on tomorrow morning and if all goes well by lunch time I will be cranking her over and see if she starts. If it does not I guess I'll do a compression test and see what it looks like. If the engine turns out to be no good, it's not a big deal to change it out. I basically had nothing to lose by trying it (other than my time). There is a small engine shop only about 1.5 hr drive away that has a freshly built 1986 300/6 in-stock for $1200 (with core).

It has a "V8"! But it doesn't say what it is, does it?

Gary, That's interesting. The face swap would work no problem...obviously the speedometers are the same, but the odometers does present a snag. You'd be racking up the miles much quicker. I guess if you were using your odometer to track your MPG, it would be great! lol. PS: My old man, still to this day uses UK Gallons in his MPG calculations (which he watches like a hawk). Since we discuss it regularly, I have to know the three different units of measure. 1. Miles per US gallon (which most of North America uses) 2. Miles per UK gallon (which my old man uses) 3. L/100K which is what most Canadians (Under about 40) use. L/100K is becoming much more common for all ages these days due to the fact that most cars display it automatically (Canadian models, at least). So what are you doing with the metric speedo? If by chance it is one of the later metric speedos with the 6-digit odometer, and if by chance you were going to get rid of it, let me know. I have only been casually looking, and that is with the assumption that the odometer can be altered, and a new instrument cluster lens is available (I don't know if either of these are true).

I'd hate to see what a 95-97 F350 4x4 crew cab Powerstroke with low miles would go for on BaT. Considering the seller only paid what, $26,500? For it, I’d say he did well on his bet. All he did was clean it up and wax it up.

Looks like bidding topped out at $37,500. Auction will be over this afternoon. If it's anything like the Ebay auctions usually are, the bidding ramps up hard for the first half of the auction, then it sits not moving until the end.

I'm running a Holley 600CFM (4160), but mine is a 302, not 351. I've been pretty happy with it...going on 3 years now. The only problems that I've had with it were self-inflicted due to me making improper adjustments or using poor quality parts (had a carb spacer that warped and leaked). I have zero experience with Edelbrock carbs, but they too seem to be loved by all.

The wheels or the hubcaps?

lol, ya, in my world there is no such thing as free shipping, ever. I used to take advantage of the US free shipping when I could get across the border, but Covid-19 ended that tout de suite as the French say! In any case, I was just kind of curious about the original wheels. I'm not all that interested in spending big money, but I wouldn't mind having a set for the odd car show and whatnot. Sometimes that original look is desirable. I've seen a few Chevys with new versions of the old while steel wheels and poverty caps, and they sometimes look really cool. I'll have to keep my eye open for a set of the caps first, and then the wheels later;).

I was just curious... If I ever wanted to get a set of the type-3 original hubcaps that my truck more than likely came with when new, I guess I would also have to find a set of the original style steel wheels too eh? Can you buy aftermarket steel wheels that have the little bumps on them for attaching hubcaps?

Speaking of "grind and fit some"...I do need to pick you brain on some sheet metal fabrication stuff, but it will be a week or so before I get there. I am just getting started fabricating new Flareside steel bed sides (from scratch this time), and I'm not sure what to do about the fender tubs. I picked up a new set of aftermarket tubs that are almost identical to the Flareside factory tubs, but I'm not sure sure on the best method to attach them yet. Below is one suggestion: http://dancarpenters.com/install.html Or I could weld them on in the same fashion, or I could cut the sides a butt-weld instead of overlapping the tub flange. Or, I could just leave the sides flat and forget all about the fender tubs. lol. I'm not sure what to do with them yet. Anyway, I'll bug you later.

Common replacement item up here in the land of rust. They are available aftermarket, so not exactly difficult to obtain or anything.

Hi Dennis, Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but in 1985 there should be no oil dipstick tube up front, only the one on the driver's side that goes into the oil pan (or into the engine block, just above the oil pan). The dipstick up front in the timing cover is a car thing (or maybe a truck thing in the 1970's...I'm only thinking of the 302...not sure about the 351w). Has this engine been changed? It almost sounds like somebody dropped a car engine into the truck, and put the truck oil pan on it.

$37,250! I stand corrected...this baby is not only going to hit $30k, it's going to hit $40K. Bloody 'ell. I'd say the seller is going to get a good return on his investment of almost $27k. Impressive, really. Funny thing is...I normally would pay a lot more for these trucks than many people, but not this truck in particular. I like it OK, but it's not really my cup of tea. I am amazed at where the bidding has gone though, really. Eat your heart out Bullnose Broncos, the pickups are catching up! lol.

Go on Facebook and look for a guy named Edgar Zencio in Atlanta, GA. I just bought some Flareside bed parts from him and he had a set of steps I believe with the brackets and everything, and he doesn't mind shipping. Prices were fair as well. Check him out. If you can't find him let me know.

Have any of you read the comments on the auction?...apparently the truck was on CraigsList previously, and ended up selling on Dads Classic Cars? That is where the current owner bought it. Ya, looks like it's been in Ohio for a little while ago. It came from down south somewhere 6 months ago, but I can't remember what state exactly. It was Southwest...I remember that much, but not exactly where.

This 1986 Flareside caught my eye, and then I remembered that it had been on Ebay months ago. It was down south somewhere originally...Texas maybe, and had a cap (topper?
