  1. California emissions style!-) On the 85 F350 460 manual 2wd Picture disclaimer: pics are not always the horizon taken with camera. Sometimes the vertical plain has become the horizontal plain. Remanufactured Factory Holley with all the vacuum fittings. Not sure what line goes to which carb inlets. Planning on going in clockwise sequence on the carb per diagram. Any input on what the letters designate in the carb circle? 6 total 2 large at each end of carb at top curving toward passenger side. These seem to be BV (bowl vent) hookups connected to the TVV's (Thermal Vacuum Valve), Purge CV's, and then Carbon Canisters. 2 more (1 small, 1 medium) above choke. 2 more at front, in baseplate. Is one of these ports plugged in the diagram. 1 small 1 medium/large - maybe for the PCV. The diagram notes PCV to HICV then INT MAN.? These seem to be the 2 vcv's at the bottom of diagram. Seems important what vac lines go where as they are connected to thermostat housing. This blue piece seems to be the vac restrictor between the vcv's. Item(?) 1 connected to smog pump. Also, vac line that T's near Air Cleaner and continues around to front driver's side... Maybe the ABV (Air Bypass Valve). Item(?) 2 is not connected to vac. Just a wire lead off end of item(?) connected to engine. Maybe Oil pressure? Item(?) 3 bolted to metal piece between carb and manifold. Maybe the EGR? 1 vac line goes to front along passenger side manifold. 1 vac line goes toward drivers side back of engine and is capped with a screw(!) after 2". Item(?) bolted to passenger valve cover with 2 vac lines. Maybe Solenoid Valve Unable to release electric connections from item. It says pull!-0 Is this correct ID? If so, then this BV-CBV is on the opposite side of TVV per diagram. Anyone? Is this lower canister missing something on that open port? Have not found the identity of these items, yet. HICV - Hot Idle Control Valve TK - Throttle Kicker INT MAN - ? (It's coming from the PCV in the diagram) Also, what does the ABV or Air Bypass Valve look like? (No source that ABV is Air Bypass Valve) Also, does it look like a port is plugged on the front side of the carb icon?
  2. Considering on this upgrade to the 85 F350 Crewcab 460 4spd. Keeping 4spd or upgrade to zf5. Application is tow/hauling truck on mountain roads & slow lane highway in sun, rain, mud & snow. The donor truck is an 85 F350 long bed, single cab, 460 automatic. Any input? Thanks.
  3. My 85 F350 has 16.5 inch steel wheels with mismatched tires and I am looking on CL for a set of wheels and tires to replace them. Most of the posted Ford wheels for F350's are 16 inch. What are the variables to consider on this change? These 265/75r16 load range e tires and aluminum wheels with 5k miles are going for 400. https://images.craigslist.org/00D0D_cnxdjmPCEHt_600x450.jpg https://images.craigslist.org/00U0U_lQqLPEgJ9lI_1200x900.jpg These are 800. 235/85r16 mounted on 16x7 f350 Steel wheels https://images.craigslist.org/00A0A_aqLQccEHJHN_1200x900.jpg
  4. Ordering one on Monday. Running on the F350. What have you say folks? Edelbrock 1406 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1406 Street Demon 1901 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/dem-1901/overview/ 1. Composite bowl option seems the most important difference. Is it the final straw?
  5. Summit is saying the eddy 1826 is specific to off-road and will not perform well for street use. Seems that in our situation we are buying off the shelf. Probably the 1406 as we are running stock engine and not sure we need adjustable secondaries. Thank you for the consideration on your 1826. Still more research on the fuel line as we are not interested in running inferior product and rerunning again later. The ethanol gas law does not look like its changing and I am more into running the tightest spec and not dealing with it later or even having it in a trouble shooting situation. Quick example: Ethanol resistant grade: 25ft is $25 Alcohol/biodiesel grade: 25ft is $75 Cheap investment for the fuel situation here.
  6. How much for that Thunder 650? Where's it shipping from? When is it available?
  7. Thank you Gary. Any input on ethanol resistant fuel hose for carbureted application?
  8. Thank you Gary. Did some reading on fuel line and interested in your research and choice of ethanol resistant fuel line and heat shield. Next to research the dead-head style regulator and interested in your part choice. Very interested in the return-style regulator part choice and HFS removal as the thought did come up that there may be a better design than was available in the 80's. It's possible!-) Also sitting with carb choice... Not sure about the fuel line route on the firewall. That alone stopped me from ordering the eddy today.
  9. Looking at the 1901 on Summit Racing site, it seems the fuel inlet is on the back of the engine. Anyone install this carb or similar setup for stock 460 with Hot Fuel System? Seems like the fuel line will be even warmer running along the firewall. Is it ok to run rubber fuel line? Better to have new steel lines made?
  10. Thank you for the intake info. We do have emissions inspections. Visual and exhaust check. Smog said we can update the carb to new. We did not ask about a manifold and are willing to should it prove to be a worthy upgrade. We have been through a factory remanufactured 4 barrel Holley from Summit. It failed smog due to a vacuum leak from the throttle body seal of carb. Mechanic advised it may take a few carbs before receiving one with a good throttle body seal. Also, said we can put a new carb on. The factory carb is 600cfm. A friend had no problem smogging a mild cam, 750cfm, 460 here in California. I understand this is too much for my stock engine now. Thank you. Planning on the 625cfm described earlier in this thread. Unless someone advises another direction. EFI seems like it will correct the hot fuel system and that is attractive. Not simple is not attractive. I do live in the mountains, tow a 24' trailer and it is in the 90 degree range often. Currently redoing the fuel system and doing my best to ensure there is NO HFS problems. There must be a smooth performing HFS solution or trouble shooting guide from the factory. Or a skilled mechanical expert on those systems. So many are on the road or have been.
  11. Yes sir. Stock 460 with CA smog equipment. Open to adding an intake for better performance. Am not sure how important it is or worth the cost as this is a working daily driver. May EFI is the way to go for maintenance issues as we don't have any fuel without ethanol as far as I know. Updated signature...I think. What is a ... Dual plate intake? Also, not able to cut and paste in this forum. Is that normal? Thank you and Best Regards.
  12. Here in the Santa Cruz California mountains and redwoods. There are many of these trucks out here and reasonalbly priced. I have a shady tree shop and am willing to purchase and part vehicles if anyone is looking for something difficult to find at their end. I don't know anything and am willing to learn. Currently working on a 85 F350 Crewcab 2wd and an 85 F250 extended cab 4wd. Best Regards!-)
  13. Ordering a new carb and wondering how your 750cfm is working out. Is this a significant performance and fuel increase over the 625cfm that was mentioned?
  14. Thank you!-) Will start a new thread. Can we delete this thread and I will post an introduction thread? Thank you, Edward
  15. Howdy Folks, Saved this beauty from collecting another season of leaves. Running great up to a couple weeks ago when is started stalling while driving uphill due to fuel loss. Able to save it for awhile by clutching the transmission and pulsing the gas pedal, but, it just keeps doing the same thing every time it's driving upwards. Runs real well on flat ground. Right now, the truck is waiting for a new Holley from Summit Racing, though, we don't think the carb is the issue. While it is sitting we would like any help with testing the in tank electric fuel pumps. Front and rear. The idea is to attach a 12 volt battery to the appropriate contact on the selector valve connection. It is a 5 wire/contact connection. We are not sure which wire goes to each tank pump, so, before we start touching 12 volts to each of the 5 contacts, we are asking. Any knowledge which color the hot is for the front/rear tanks? Any idea why the truck will lose fuel pressure going uphill? Any testing procedure to correct or test these possibilities? Thank you for any consideration. Best Regards, Edward
