  1. Hi All, While reconverting f350 ambulance back to truck, I came across a bunch of cole hersee 24059 relays. I have it from a good source these are 85A rated. Anyone need any? Thanks.
  2. Found a bench seat from 96 f350 for transplant into the waaaambulance. ( named for wife's dislike for its rough exterior!) This -should- be a bolt in fit i hope? Only 4 seat bolts were seen thru my floor pan. Given the seats are right up against the back of the cab, is there a sheet metal or plastic trim behind the seat? Has anyone rekeyed a Hansen style D-Ring? There are a dozen of these things. Not sure if a key can be made from one of the locks?
  3. Any tips on removing the plastic liner? The cost of the manifold is priced in, but the frustration level is intimidating. That should help alot. Is an pneumatic impact the right tool? It's a low mileage motor (34K) but is from 1986 - lotta years. Do have a loaner acetylene tank set on premises. Could do that too. Thanks in advance.
  4. Anyone know where I can find sheet metal(?) trim cover behind the seats in an 85/86 F350? Am in northern NJ. Thanks!
  5. Have a 1985 F350 with 460 engine. there is some evidence of crackng on the #1 cylinder exhaust manifold. How big of a job is that swap out?
  6. Removed the console on F350 Ambulance. Back at it!! Yanked Drivers seat and the DIY seat frame (weldment made by ambulance fitters). Unwired the sirens in grille sadly. Just cleaning stuff up. Some screws on the center Grill (1985 F350 base) were really rusted. Saw the page here describing the front end grille - very helpful! Any thoughts on removing rusted/"stripped" modified Truss head screws that hold the grille on? Already ordered a box of #8 SS screws - "Phillips Modified Truss Head SMS 305SS - #8 x 3/4" - so.. that todays fun! Also - any source for the captive screw 'nuts' that these #8 screws go into? If I ever get the grille off, think I'll replace all the captive "screw nuts" - maybe generic? Thanks Everybody!
  7. Thanks Gary. Now about that affordable acre in New Jersey.. . Uggh. Think that acre was moved out of state!! Good tip on ceiling height .ty for that
  8. The crewcab pickup has a wheelbase of 168.4". The regular chassis cab had a 133", 136.8", and 160.8" wheelbase options. And the Supercab had a 155" wheelbase. So, you are having the Amish build your garage? (I realize that there are lots of "English", using the Amish term for non-Amish people, living in Lancaster.) I hear they do excellent work. Can't imagine we will find house of her dreams and garage of mine, so we looking at houses with space for my garage.... more likely the solution. Amish folks do seem to have it down. Custom garage for reasonable. Money sounds like a plan!! Machine shop, table saw. A two post lift.... I want it all!!
  9. What are common wheelbases ( not track) for 1986 F350? The whole vehicle is > 20 feet long... I cant fit it in my garage, to which my mind thinks.... "gonna need a bigger garage!". Brought up the notion of "garage of my dreams" to wifey.. Looking to the folks from Lancaster, Pa for their garage building skills!
  10. Heya buds, Still got the ambulance. still lots to do on that. just figured there were some 9" diff folks around!! Is rust on quarter window (passenger) door a common malady on bullnosers? Has anyone used a pressure washer sandblaster attachment? Have to blast the Ambulance inside.Tip on phosphoric acid that i learned here has been awesome.. Been using that to etch/paint parts. cleans buckets of nuts and bolts, but does strip ANY plating toot sweet.
  11. Hi everybody, Am rebuilding a 9" diff with TractionLock. New 3.50 gears and bearings all around! My question is about the friction materials in the clutch. Stock setup has 4 springs in the block inside the ring gear. Had read that one can also shim the clutches pretty tight and use the side load on the spider gears for the clutch squeeze. This method also reduces the constant preload on the clutch pack. Are there any downsides to skipping the springs and packing the clutch stack? Street car - 68 Mustang 5 speed, 390. Guess if I skip the preload, I wont get much initial locking...will need the spider gear side load to make the pressure that binds Right and left? TIA
  12. Thanks Guys!! Think ill leave v belt and car alt In place. Will re use cable.. 5/16" lugs Seem about right. Ordering cole hersee Isolator sized for bigger alt.thx, and happy Thanksgiving!! Now it's time for turkey Sandwiches!
  13. Hi Gary, If i switch to a high output alt, would i convert vbelt to serpentine? Middle of a real estate shuffle and stork delivery ( grand daughter). Look forward to getting back into f350 project. John
  14. Cole 48122 looks a fit. 140A max alternator feed, so might fuse around there. Good, so i can start pulling out the huge cables To the console. If i use the cole 48122, does energizing the #10 wire cut power? If i skip the ammeter, do i need any Shunts? Seems that fuses replace the fusible links. Good x2.
