  1. That's how my '85 was. The switching valve had ONE wire to it. It was a simple spring loaded solenoid valve.
  2. Thanks Gary! This is going to come in handy. I always wondered how to do it, because on my old '85 F150, the speedo was about 3mph off at 60, but the odometer was dead accurate between mileposts.
  3. Last I was there, you could still buy the cup plugs for the heads from Ford. DOZZ-6026-B.
  4. After 36 years, I ran away from Ford, and am now selling Freightliner parts. In 2021, when I was last at ford, all of their filters were still made by Purolator. We hadn't seen the filters with fluted housings in years. Even the trusty old FL1A had flats around the top. I'm assuming because that's how most of the filter wrenches are shaped. But, I've noticed the pricing of late - it IS ridiculous! I've gone to Wix for my FL1A applications, and Fleetguard for the wife's 4.6 Explorer. If you guys like Wix filters, surprisingly, Home Depot has the best prices!
  5. Red knobs are definitely OEM Ford. They were built by Warn, but are different from the current ones that Warn sells. Early Ford had red knobs and were 7/8 turn. Next generation had red knobs and were 1/4 turn. The last series used through '96 had black knobs and only used 3 screws to hold the caps on instead of 6. I don't know what year each was introduced, but as assemblies all years are interchangeable.
  6. It sounds like a broken flex plate to me. You can't see the damage until the trans is out of the way - they break just outside if the bolt circle.
  7. If I go with the Bronco tank, the plan was a 38 gallon rear and delete the front tank completely. Engine is a carbureted 302, so I'd just need to extend the fuel feed line and sender harness. On one hand, I hate to lose the under bed spare, but they're such a pain to remove when needed that I really don't think I'll miss it. Thanks for the advice on the filler door and hose. I was hoping it would be as easy as just moving the door to the back of the fender.
  8. Does anyone know of a source for a larger front tank for a short wheelbase truck? I need to get back on my F100 project. I hate the fact that it has only a 16 gallon tank. I want either a larger front tank, or I'll convert to a Bronco rear tank if necessary. It's an '81 stepside, so my preference is to stay with only a front tank.
  9. Have you checked your local Ford dealer? Base number 3332 - if they aren't available, I'm pretty sure boots from a Super Duty will fit.
  10. I responded to your original thread yesterday. Take a look, it might get you there...
  11. It's going to look amazing when you get it done. You guys up north have more patience and talent than I. Where I live, we'd scrap a truck with that much rust. I'm guilty of doing it to many... Keep up the good work!
  12. I noticed that the last owner didn't cut the end of the fuel line off and the flare nut is still there. Since you're running the stock Motorcraft carburetor, if you get the original fuel filter, you could realign the steel tubing and have no fear of leakage. The correct setup looks like this.
  13. Yes sir, you're missing the rest of a factory hanger!
  14. Except '83-'84 6.9 engines. They originally had a Delco Remy starter that ate flywheel ring gears left and right. Only use the Mitsubishi starters on IDI engines.
  15. I didn't read every post carefully, so someone may have touched on this already. The bumper you want is 378359-S, not 354860-S. 354860 is the bumper on the hinge that softens the stop when opening the door, not the one that it rests on when closed...
