  1. To paraphrase a famous Okie, all I know is what I read in the documentation. And I have master parts catalogs from 1948 through 1989.
  2. I think a 4.9L could sound cool using the split manifold. And that 2nd link sure has a deep sound to it.
  3. This advert is sorta correct. Ford used the same letters, as shown below, on the 1978 - 81 pickups, but not out to 1983 as it shows. Note that these are D9TZ's, meaning they came out in '79. More specifically they came out in August of '79. Prior to that the letters were D5UZ's, but the D9's replaced them in 8/79. 16606 LETTER - Incl. attaching parts - Also refer to groups 8316 & 40282 80/ E 100/350, F100/350, U150 D9TZ 16606-A "F"-hood D9TZ 16606-B "O" D9TZ 16606-C "R" D9TZ 16606-D "D"
  4. The catalog shows that as correct for 1980 - 84. I wasn't aware the '82 and later Explorers used it though.
  5. Update: The 1986 pricing has info on all the trucks now.
  6. Kinda high for what it is. Would need lots of rust repair from what little I can see.
  7. Mark - You said is "this" but there's no pic. Did I miss something?
  8. That's your park, or emergency, brake mechanism. Goes by the left foot. Edit: You had an arrow I missed. And I can't tell. Can you take a closer pic?
  9. From the fact that the catalog tells us what that part # is in the index but doesn't list them where they should be I think they may have been a one-year wonder. They routinely took things out that were sold out by the time the '94 edition came out. If someone really wanted to know I'd climb the microfiche tower and check on the '82 version of the MPC. But I'm not inclined at this point. Sure wish there was an inexpensive way to convert microfiche to digital.
  10. Ok guys, thanks. I think the plan is shaping up. I won't get to it today as we have other things going on, and maybe not tomorrow, but I'll tighten the bolts down to 40 lb-ft and see if I'm right that there's ~1/8" of clearance. If so, then 1/2" spacers would do the trick. And, there's probably that much adjustment available in the bumper brackets. But, there's Ray's, and Janey's, suggestion of using a hammer to get clearance. In the pic below the one in question is the closer of the two white marks, the one just this side of the tape's end. I'm not opposed to dimpling the floor there as it will never be seen. And, if I can get 1/4" of movement that would cut the spacer size to 1/4". If it is ever to be done, now is the time as once it is bolted down there's no way to get to it w/a hammer. So I'm going to ask my paint/body man to stop by on Thursday or Friday and we will see if he can dimple it. We might want to strap the thing to the lift arms to ensure it won't move, but that should be easy enough. With your help I think it'll get there. And I'm feeling much better about it. Thanks!
  11. And, Bill gave me some info on 1991 and later 460 starters as well as PMGR starters, and I added it to the Engines/Starters page.
  12. Oddly enough, while the catalog says that 23934 is a Cover (door trim lower), it doesn't list a single one. But, A7T is Caramel, which was a 1980-only color. So, like most listings, there's some truth in the fact that it will FIT 1980 - 86, it won't match anything but 1980.
  13. FYI, when you see things in the quoted text like the "
  14. Mark - A tee doesn't work very well on coolant as there's no flow so the senders are sitting in coolant that doesn't represent what is going on in the engine. Instead I'd look for a port on the intake manifold. The passage in the front that goes from one head to the other on a Windsor is coolant and there's usually a port tapped in it with a plug run down in it. Also, there is frequently a port on the water pump with a similar plug. As for thread pitch, most stock senders are 3/8" NPT, but some aftermarket ones are 1/4" NPT.
  15. Ok, I think I'm losing it. Oh wait, I have a Bullnose problem so I have lost it.Anyway, I think maybe I have the map right now.
  16. Well, you won't forget it. Or, maybe I should say you'll never get it out of your mind. Overall, nice truck. Just not my favorite color.
  17. The frame is already done so I've passed the point of mount replacement. ;) I forgot you were that far.
  18. David - Yes, it probably could, but the head of the bolt is already smaller the the boss it is going into. So trimming the boss would be the first move in that area. However, I don't know how much can be taken off and still have adequate strength, so I'm reluctant to do that. Having said that, I did get some clearance today. After cutting off the tab I re-installed the 1356 and lowered the cab and had maybe 1/32" of clearance, as shown on the left. Then I cut 3/8" plywood spacers and installed them, just for testing purposes, and got the 3/8"+ shown on the right. After that I torqued three of the four mounts down to 30 lb-ft, but ran out of time to get the fourth, the right front. Anyway, with those three down to 30, when the specs call for 40 - 50, I still have 1/4" of clearance. But, by the time I get them to 40 lb-ft I'll bet I'm down to 1/8". So I'm not sure that 3/8" is enough spacer. How much of an issue with the bumpers will 1/2" of lift be?
  19. And I tried to respond: But there was no post to respond to, so it bounced. What happened? Added a new page today currently called 1986 F-Series Rapid-Spec. But, as it turned out after I looked at the info I'd scanned in it was only F150. So I'll have to go back and see if I have the other pickup info as well as the Bronco. And then I'll rename the page to 1986 Pricing, but will provide a redirect so old links work. Anyway, go to Literature/1986 Literature and pick the 1986 Model F150 Series in the bottom left.
  20. I'm learning that books on the shelf don't help others very much without my intervention. So I'm cutting pages out and scanning them in. Or, like I did today, pull the pages out of 3-ring binder and scan them. So, if you have binders maybe you could scan some of them? I scan at 600 dpi into a pdf, which allows me to OCR them so they can be searched, copied, etc.
